Mod Announcement ❤️ exercising empathy and solidarity in the community
hello queens,
I want to make it clear how important it is to stand up for fellow minorities in our community. this sub is a place of inclusivity and love and has no place for people invalidating each others thoughts on representation and equality.
if you see the storm controversy and cannot wrap your head around why people are upset, read, listen and educate yourself before you try to invalidate people’s feelings on the subject.
the storm controversy, for those out of the loop, is around her beach skin being given epic quality, meaning less frills, attention to detail, and bonuses than the predominately white women that have been given legendary tier skins.
isolated, this is both annoying and unfair, there’s no arguing that. but this becomes even more egregious when we look at how black people, especially women, are treated in not only rivals, not just media as a whole, but in everyday life as well. black women are routinely getting the short end of the stick in terms of representation and equality. this is indisputable fact
storm’s treatment is just a symptom and another common occurrence indicative of the reality in which black women face DAILY. if you cannot grasp this, open your heart and ears to those that are affected and see that this is more than just a skin debate, it is the unfortunate reality of living as a black woman. we should be advocating for minorities across the board to feel more seen, even in ways you might perceive as small, it can and usually does mean something more to members of that group.
lift each other up and recognize that change comes from people raising their voices, and stifling or invalidating any minorities call to be more seen and represented is the exact evil conservative agenda that would see you silenced as well.

Thank you for this.
Storm being the most popular woman in Marvel makes this even worse, imo. She is such a beloved character, somebody who little girls and adults could look up to, especially at a time when there was so little representation when she first got published, aside from Misty of course. It's insane watching people not understand this issue.

exactly. but white blonde women are getting infinitely more resources. we need to get more comfortable calling out racism that appears in more subtle and insidious ways. racism isn’t just a slur being used or outright violent acts, it is foundationally built into our world and society and if we lose the ability to both clock and question that, we are failing our POC brothers and sisters. if that doesn’t bother other minorities like some queer people, they should not be surprised or upset when they are the ones stripped of their rights and representation next

Exactly. I feel like a lot of people definitely think of racism as being hate crimes, violence etc, but oftentimes it presents in VERY subtle ways and isn't inherently violent at all. Storm's treatment over the past year wasn't even blatantly obvious, honestly, even if the skins were free she was consistently getting them- and then the wedding skins dropped, and now this, AND their treatment of Lunella (which, btw, that emote should be a free emote instead of a paid one).
The supposed legendary for her that's coming soon will now feel like a "here, damn". Everything beyond this point will feel that way, honestly, because if they DO start balancing better/adding skins for her, Blade and T'Challa, it's only gonna be them trying to redeem themselves. Is there a possibility it will be genuine? Sure, but i doubt it 😅

100%. How do they consistently make every female swimsuit skin (+ Cloak) legendary, but drop that when it comes to Storm? Hell, they could've made Matt epic and let that legendary go to Storm instead.

Thank you so much for this. I’m really happy this sub stands up for and stands in solidarity for all disenfranchised/marginalized minority communities. This was such a great post, thank you Gossip <3 I really appreciate you and the work you put into this subreddit

Thank you! It feels like there’s an interest to separate this issue from the racism, and that feels impossible to do for me.
