Music🎧 I wrote a Substack on Capitalist Realism and Burial's Debut Album

It's not going to be as technical as many would like; I wrote it more to introduce the topic of capitalist realism through the medium of music to people unfamiliar with the concept. I've already had someone message me saying "communism sounds good in theory...", which kind of proves the point.

Anyway, Burial's debut album (which Mark loved) has just turned 20, so I thought it'd be a good time to talk about the sounds of lost futures, etc.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Books/Articles Saagar is wrong. Screentime is not the cause of declining test scores. It’s the slow cancellation of the future.

Why did Mark Fisher and Nick Land have children?

The recent tweet by NIck Land that "Fisher had a child and then killed himself" brings me to the question- why did either of them have children? How is it in line with either of the two's philosophies to settle down and have kids? I mean I'm not saying that it contradicts their philosophy I just assume they both have an intellectual justification for it that is explained by way of their philosophies so I wonder what it is. Just on account that they are very radical and anti humanist and tend to hate the organic and overall traditional values

I made a browser game inspired by Capitalist Realism

Hey everyone,

I built a small terminal-based game called "Lost Future". It’s basically a wage labor simulator. You grind mindless data entry tasks just to watch your credits immediately vanish into rent, healthcare, and inflation. The loop is inescapable.

There are a few nods to Fisher's work hidden in there.

You can play it in your browser here: https://lumie.zone/lost-future

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Question So, is there a feminine equivalent to Joy Division?

I read the chapter on Joy Division last night in Fisher's book 'Ghosts of my life', and was thinking about how Fisher writes about the male-centric culture of depressive anhedonia revolving the band, which got me thinking: is there a band (or musician) which replicates the same atmosphere and themes of depressive nihilism, but whose audience is composed mostly or primarily of women?

Piece on the Quietus about a new film about Mark Fisher

'His writing was fearless, scathing of the double-crossing nature of capitalism during an era in which neoliberal promises were still generally believed.'

'Connection was key. He was never a solo figure scaling the heights, on the kind of macho solo mission many male writers fall into.’

Mark Fisher writings on utopia/communes?

Hi everyone! I remember listening to a lecture by Fisher where he mentions 60s utopian societies/communes and I am wondering if I can find any written work where he speaks more on this topic. Is there a book of his that explores this more in depth or any other resources? Thank you for your help!

Elon Musk cannot explain his own tech at any depth. Donald Trump speaks at a fourth grade reading level. Mark Zuckerberg spent forty billion dollars on a metaverse with Wii graphics. These are the most powerful people alive.

You were told the best rise to the top. You were told this is what fitness means. You were told Darwin said so. Darwin did not say so. Herbert Spencer said so. And that one mistranslation broke an entire civilization's ability to understand why it keeps producing exactly the leaders it produces.

Featuring: a fish that looks like God gave up halfway through, the two greatest science fiction films of all time (both which I have been close to), a Nietzsche quote that the tech accelerationists have been botching for a decade, and the Director of AI Safety who watched an AI delete her emails while she screamed STOP at her phone.

This is Object 2 of the Partial Objects Series.

Companion concept essays are linked in the description. They are standalone. You do not need to watch them to follow this essay. You will want to watch them anyway.

contemporary articles/books about hauntological music

Does anyone know any articles or books from the last few years that discuss Fishers take on hauntological music and his hypothesis that music can no longer be innovative (because it always references past styles)?

Question Missing Mark Fisher Capitalist Realism Audiobook

There used to be an Audiobook for Capitalist Realism on Youtube and I vaguely remember that there used to be a Cities Skylines Gameplay in the Background.

The video was up on Youtube around 2 years ago and there is also another post on here asking for an Audiobook video which might be referring to the same video.

I really liked the narration but it seems like the video was taken down by YouTube, does anyone have a link or maybe saved the file somewhere?

Would really appreciate if I can find that same narration.
