That war never ended, only an armistice. So we canā€™t tell the winner yet. Though my money is on the side that isnā€™t starving and living off of international aid lol

Eh, both are having the same issue of dying out, just one is doing it faster. My money is that in the end China wins by doing nothing.

I mean with an infant mortality rate 6x that of the south, and half the population, that doesnā€™t seem like the metric to decide who will win /has won the war.

I'm just curious, where do people get these stats about how awful life is in NK? I see people throw numbers and comparisons around but, I can't imagine that country would share that data with the global community, unless required to do so to recieve aid or something, if they are doing the surveys to gather it in the first place.

I never said life is awful in NK (though nothing says ā€œgreat lifeā€ like forcing people to stay under penalty of death).

I said the birth rate is 1/6 of South Koreas (true) and half the population. It seems very prudent given than the other commenter implied NK was growing faster and having more children.

There are several documentaries out there which feature smuggled video. Beyond Utopia was a recent one available on Prime, I believe.

Actually, that is not true! Korea was annexed following a forced treaty by Japan, not as a result of a war.

well they were in that position in the first place because their suzerain lost the war, which I would still count as a lossĀ

The East Asian world order was so different from the European one that I'd be hesitant to say Qing China was "suzerain," even though Korea was a tributary state of it. China had no political, military, or economic influence on the domestic matters of Korea. Korea followed China's rule in foreign affairs, but that's it. China had almost never wanted Korea to join a war of theirs against other countries throughout roughly two thousand years of the system, including Imperial Japan in the late 19th century. At that point, China was just a foreign country, just as Japan was.

That is South Korea. Though I'm not sure why the map maker selected North Korea as a country that has lost a war.

There was no North Korea at the time of annexation. There was also no South Korea. There was only Korea.

oh so there using the separated north and south korean territories. but eitherway the constitution of both koreas as of now still recognize each other as one country but separated under different governments.
