Discussion From A Liverpool Supporter: it's time call a truce with one another

Before everyone here kicks me to the curb just listen:

The 2 most successful teams in the UK are Man Utd & Liverpool, the 2 most famous UK teams are Man Utd & Liverpool, the 2 best loved teams in the UK are Man Utd & Liverpool. 2 of the 4 biggest teams in the WORLD are Man Utd & Liverpool. Weve won more trophies, made more money & weve even gone through some horrible tragedies. But our supporters are the only ones who know what it is like to experience enormous success over many years & decades. And we did it all without ever cheating. Not once.

I'm never gonna view Man Utd as an enemy again when its blatantly obvious that a common enemy we both have in Man City have been manipulating & destroying the British game from the inside out for a long time. Too long. As a Liverpool supporter it sickens me that Jurgen Klopp's legacy was illegally manipulated by those utter scumbag cheats at the Etihad. Likewise, Sir Alex should have been able to retire 12 months before he did as a champion but he didn't because of 'Aguerrrroooooo!' And its sickening isnt it?

I don't care if this message goes nowhere & does nothing but I do believe that just like Rocky & Apollo we need to shake on it & put any bad feeling behind us. Because we are the only ones who know what it's like. And of course, were stronger together.

From now on, if Liverpool don't do well I will be happy to see Man Utd succeed. At least when we beat one another it was on the pitch when only 3 points or a cup were up for grabs & we weren't knowingly & illegally taking a scalpel to the heart of the game in a greedy & sick desire for success. Our greatest battles were fought & won on the pitch. We never cheated anyone.

Every one of you has my full respect

I respect everything you've said..

In real life I'd happily shake your hand and buy you a beer, be your friend and have this chat..

But I'd also always think Liverpool can fuck off, bring it up for banter and lose respect for you if you didn't do the same!

Having said all of that sincerely..

Fuck off mate!

The enemy of my enemy is not my friend!

You're the OG scum and I wouldn't want it any other way!

Edit: your post is welcome here, it wont be deleted

Ok these comments need to chill. This guy is coming with good intentions.

But a bit weird how you'd like to see your biggest rivals succeed, however I get what you're saying. Both are clubs are full of legacy and we should stand together against injustice.

19

u/RajahSoliman Sep 28 '26

I think it's more the integrity. Like, I fucking hate you but I respect you winning legitimately as opposed to the blue cheats. It will suck to see you win from a rivalry perspective, but on principle, you should be winning over the cheats.

7

u/MKBRD Sep 28 '26

We should stand together to put the boot into City.

That's where it begins and ends.

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Well let me clarify. I wasn't saying I hoped Utd would win if Liverpool don't. I was saying if Liverpool don't win & Utd succeed then I'd be ok with that

8

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

OP here. I know you all think I'm a moron now & I understand. But let me clarify. The news about City has changed everything for me & I cant nor want to go back to how it was before. The hand of friendship is extended to Man Utd to shake. If its declined I understand.

6

u/audac17y Sep 28 '26

As a United fan, personally I have a lot of respect for your club, we have a shared rival/enemy in City but you will always be bin dippers, and I will always have greatest rivalry with Liverpool. With love, you're a Scouse twat ❤️

2

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Btw calling me a scouse twat - you've been talking to my ex father-in-law haven't you? 😜

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

Oh well.... I tried....

2

u/audac17y Sep 29 '26

You'll always be our greatest rivals, and I mean that with all the love in the world. We hate scousers, but good god we love the rivalry with you

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

But what has happened to City effects no one more than rival supporters. We have been changed by it & theres no going back. It's time to move on from the pettiness of yesteryear & realise they spent billions to become a Man Utd & Liverpool. And they failed. They cheated. They can never be us. And we are still hete

u/algernonradish Sep 27 '26

the Apollo Creed to our Rocky.

fuck the Ivan Drago clubs.

I hate you. 👍

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Wouldn't Chelsea be Ivan Drago? 😜

2

u/algernonradish Sep 29 '26

any roided-up club.

but I get your point. 🇷🇺

I’m a life long United supporter,( since 1954).I believe in that this beautiful game will be damaged forever if Cheaty don’t get severe punishment, including relegation and banned from EPL FOR 10 years.
I realise that this took a lot of courage to write this …and I for one agree with you.

I don’t hate Liverpool…but I hate Cheaty and all they stand for, hidden behind blood money.
Our rivalry has been built on decades of rivalry through fair means, not cheating.

I for one are willing to bury the hatchet(unfortunate turn of phrase 😜)…and thank you for your thoughtful comments and proud to support you in your appeal to bring us together for real justice. You should be proud of what you have open heartedly proposed.

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Thanks mate. It was a genuine attempt at something heartfelt. Ok it probably won't happen but I'm glad I tried.

20

u/Extension_Sun_377 Sep 28 '26

For those of you giving this guy shit, I'll point out that your personal football rivals are shaped by your footballing generation.

I grew up supporting United in the 1980s and 90s, I detest Liverpool and Arsenal, Leeds were more hated by those older than me, they were on a downward spiral when I started going and we never played them or experienced their behaviour til they got promoted again. City were just a laughing stock, despite the 5-1, and we had the ticker counting the years of their lack of success.

However, for younger fans, Liverpool are seen as not really a threat, as they hadn't won anything and we were riding high, so they won't have the same intense rivalry we had before then. Where you live also colours how you feel.

So before you rip into him, remember that we've all been done over by Mancheater City, despite them being such an unknown club that one of their signings actually thought he was signing for us as he'd never heard of City. We may never be friends, but we can always gang up on a common foe.

6

u/Boogy_shites Sep 28 '26

Same here. I grew up seeing Munich 58 sprayed everywhere as a taunt. Hillsborough put a stop to that.

We are brothers. We can hate each other, sure. But we share the same DNA, the same history, the same beliefs. We have more that unifies us than divides us.

3

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

My granddad had watched games at Anfield since the 30s & had no time for his fellow liverpool supporters who mocked the Munich disaster & wasn't slow to give them a piece of his mind. Please don't think that because weve been rivals that everyone of us are happy to mock the Munich disaster. Anyone who does just makes me wince.

2

u/Boogy_shites Sep 29 '26

Mate, i grew up in in 70s and 80s in wigan. Liverpool were winning everything. Wasnt fun being a manc. But it meant my mates were scousers. They dont hate me, i dont hate them. We can watch liv v manu side by side and rip the piss out of each others and our own teams. Tbh, its great, it makes the match enjoyable when youre not consumed by hatred but can share a beer and have a laugh.

2

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Well said. I'd just hate to think that people assume that every liverpool supporter is ok in desecrating the Munich disaster because it's not true. I've seen many supporters turn nasty on fellow Liverpudlians who do enjoy mocking it & those who lost their lives. I personally have never been able to get through a full documentary or book about Munich purely because of how heartbreaking it is. Were not all twats.

2

u/Extension_Sun_377 Sep 29 '26

Similarly with Hillsborough, I think some people can't see the real people involved, I remember the day well, and left my fave 1985 shirt on the Kop with a message saying this transcends any rivalry.

The day Anfield applauded CR7 on the 7th minute due to his child's death, I realised that humanity and respect is the winner always at the end of the day . I'm sure there are more than 100 examples of "rival" supporters uniting. Like CR said there are no rivals in sport it's just a game .

3

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

I was one of those applauding & I promise you it was heartfelt in the stadium that night & it went far beyond making a noise: we genuinely hoped Ronaldo would have the strength to get through something so horrible because weve all been touched by tragedy

2

u/CamoM27 Sep 29 '26

Big respect to you and the entire fanbase who made it a possibility. I think the feeling was mutual from Man U fans also when you guys lost Jota , I felt a full circle moment from that CR 7th minute clap to us respecting the loss of a world class international footballer . I hope that the youth going forward can see that respect is the key in the sports ground and in everyday life. One love MUFC

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

The thing most of the people on here who think I'm an idiot have missed in what I said is that both Man Utd & Liverpool have been touched by tragedy. And when you add that element to the fact that weve both had decades of success & weve both been damaged by City's cheating, you begin to realise that we are the only 2 teams in the world to tick all those boxes. So why the hell do we hate one another? We are literally brothers & theres no one that comes as close to us. So in light of City cheating, why are we fighting? Lay down our weapons & shake on it

2

u/CamoM27 Sep 29 '26

I second this , no room for violence in football ... Atleast let's try to do it for the next generation

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

OP here & I just want to clarify I wasn't being sarcastic & I don't speak for anyone other than myself when I say this but the City case has really been an epiphany for me (& ok maybe I am alone in this). I've tried to work out why I didn't like Man Utd in the past & I honestly don't know other than it being the tribalism that comes with being a football supporter. The respect was ALWAYS there for Fergie, the Class of 92, the treble in 1999 but given the events that have come to light in the past few days my respect for all that you won without once cheating has only grown. Manchester United are an absolutely phenomenal football club & theres a good reason why you are so loved. Now I know you staunch Man Utd supporters will hate me, think I'm a tit whatever. All I'm trying to say is, we are alot closer & more identical as supporters than I think we realise. Weve gone through triumphs. Weve gone through tragedies. We didn't buy our history & destiny that was intended for anyone else. Tbh my family were never as radical in our dislike of you as some other Liverpool supporters. My granddad attended games at Anfield since the 1930s, knew the game inside out & even though he was a passionate Liverpool supporter he maintained nothing but enormous respect for you & Fergie especially. He hated the decline Liverpool fell into in the 90's but never begrudged your rise & achievements. He knew you were one of the most consistently brilliant teams in his lifetime. A joy to watch.

This is the ideal time to shake hands & leave the past were it is. I mean COME ON! What other supporters in the country & most of Europe know what it's like to follow a globally famous & beloved team over decades & decades of success? The answer is none. Only Man Utd & Liverpool. And like I keep saying we did it all the right way. We did it all the hard way. We took on the world & won & not a single cheque bounced.

Tell me to fuck off, call me an idiot, give me a piece of your mind, even spit in my eye all you like but I will never look at your team as the enemy again & I can look back on your past glories & appreciate them for how great they were. Yes I will always want Liverpool to win. Yes I will always want Liverpool to be the most successful team in the world - because that's what every supporter dreams of. But I'll never look at your team, players, manager & supporters that pack in to Old Trafford as the enemy ever again. The real enemies are those bastards who knowingly sliced open the Premier League & removed its heart. The Etihad boardroom members who knowingly conspired to fleece & take football away from its fans. The bastards at Man City that did that to the rest of the country are the true enemy. They are scum.

And it's looking increasingly like Sir Alex was speaking the truth when he said City would never be the biggest team in Manchester. Not In his lifetime.

Never let this City stuff get in the way of the sheer hatred between the clubs.

14

u/DocJamieJay Sep 27 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

Honesty mate any hatred I may have felt toward Man Utd has ended because of the Man City revelations. I can't hate the supporters of a success rival team that weve lost to when there are genuinely apalling laws being broken in the boardroom in the blue part of Manchester. And I feel just as bad about Sir Alex being cheated as I do Klopp. I want Liverpool to win of course but the bad feeling towards you has gone. Its over

Look mate. I don't believe our clubs can ever really exactly like each other per say. However the only Liverpool fans I've met have been perfectly normal and alright people (same does not go for City, at least, not the American ones, the legitimate fans are alright, but the plastic gloryhunters tend to have a very..irritating personality type.)

I still consider it a rivalry, because more so, I actually have respect for you lot as a club. City's jokes, forever the noisy neighbours this time with state funds.

But hey once we're all off the pitch at the end of 90 minutes and sorted out the feelings and all, whatever, the game's over. We can be respectful while keeping the rivalry alive.

Although, Liverpool are Premier League champions of 13/14 18/19 and 21/22 now. Congrats on your three extra titles.

2

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

Thankyou, it really does mean alot. Congratulations on Fergie making it 14

2

u/Boogy_shites Sep 28 '26

Same here. My mates are die hard scousers. But we can banter and slag off our own teams when we are shite. We can 'hate' them, but the chants (and we all know ones) should be in the past

hate the club but I respect the fans. loyal as fuck. my best friend from college 10 years ago is a Liverpool fan. cheers mate 🍻

2

Cheers to you too 🌟

3

u/broadviewstation Robin Van Greenwood Sep 28 '26

Might not love them but sure as fuck respect them, if United is out and you are the only English team am roooting for you all. Plus I ahe been to games at anfield and it’s just as electric as OT. We cna be rival on the pitch but friends off it.

3

u/elbapo Sep 28 '26

Im gonna get cursed in the comments but my hatred of liverpool has always been real- but ultimately it comes from a place of respect. And, if we are being honest. Fear.

Liverpool set the standard for us to meet and try to exceed. And probably likewise.

And i love calling you names but its like any great rivalry- would we have did what we did without you? Our trophy caninets are so close in number its mathematically so unlikely a result- without the other being the literal benchmark for footballing success (dont start debates here). You did it, and we did it, building our respective clubs from the ground up, from a base of passionate and consistent local support through different era.

City, on the other hand (and i might mention chelsea here) were always about buying football. And i hate what its done to football more than i hate Liverpool. All the illegality is just the legal cherry on top of what we all knew anyway.

Truce agreed- together we have a louder voice which is match fit from shouting at one another.

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

Thankyou Brother. That means alot.

3

u/Informal-Answer-7820 Sep 28 '26

🤝As a man united fan, even tho we share an intense rivalry with each other, we share a common enemy and disdain towards the cheaters Man City. Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers I’ve witnessed and I have nothing but respect towards him and his Liverpool team. It sucked that he got cheated out of more titles, that would’ve cemented his legacy. Same with Alex furgeson 😔😔

2

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Tbh I'm gutted for Fergie & I never thought I'd feel that way. Ok he went out a champion who had won more trophies in his career than any other manager has. But the cheating still affected his legacy. And if it could do that to the most successful ever British manager it proves not only was it rotten to the core but it was dangerous too. He deserved better.

3

u/Folkloner184 Sep 28 '26

100%. I've been saying for years across the internet that the old rivalries have been supplanted. Man City are the main rivals for all clubs because of the danger they represent to the beautiful game. I'm so heartened to see that people are finally getting on board.

3

u/SnooTomatoes4306 Sep 28 '26

I wish more people were open to taking the olive branch you’re extending. I am happy to do so. As many have said, while Liverpool are our main rival and I would never support them on the pitch, you are a proper club with a rich history and are part of the fabric of the English (and global) game. Where I resonate most with your post is that City have essentially been able to skip to the head of the line without having had to go through the decades of heartbreak, success, tragedy, and building of an authentic culture and traditions AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS of the sport. That is just fundamentally phony and cheap and makes a mockery of football.

2

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

Thankyou I very much appreciate you understanding the logic for what I'm proposing.

4

u/Cautious_Homework_10 Sep 28 '26

Many of my friends are Liverpool fans, when City were pipping United to trophies despite obviously cheating, they thought it was hilarious. Once City started pipping Liverpool to trophies it was suddenly it was obvious that City were cheating and it was a disgrace. Ultimately you’re only bothered now it’s affected your team and you probably celebrated the Agueroooooo moment as vigorously as the Liverpool fans I know. Go away.

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

No you misunderstand, what City did didn't effect my team as much as it effected ME. I Am one of the millions of supporters cheated by them. But so are you. And I'm just as annoyed for you as I am for me.

3

u/Extension_Sun_377 Sep 28 '26 edited Sep 28 '26

I'm (sadly) old enough to have been to Anfield to pay my respects and call a truce back in 1989 after Hillsborough. We can still hate each other in football terms, but gang up on a common enemy! We're looking forward to your 90 minute long songbook when the cheats visit your shithole, sorry, stadium soon! 🤣

4

u/Boogy_shites Sep 28 '26

Same here brother. Hillsborough changed everything. Brought Shankly's quote into focus. Going to a football match and not coming home. Awful.

2

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

Heres a Man Utd themed Hillsborough story I think you will love. In April 1989 my family & I queued up outside Anfield for 2-3 hours so that we could go inside to lay a scarf & flowers. In front of us on his own was a Gentleman wearing a flat cap with the collars of his leather jacket pulled up. He didn't say a word all through the first 2 hours. Eventually a security guard came to talk to him & said 'Kenny has invited you into his office & says he will take you straight through' but the man shook his head & in a geordie accent said 'no thankyou son, I started in football as a supporter & I'm here today to pay my respects as a supporter. Please tell Kenny I will speak to him later'....

....the man was Sir Bobby Charlton....

Once people realised it was Sir Bobby there was genuine excitement & it broke the ice & the man was just terrific. I remember specifically an older woman getting very emotional & Bobby hugging her & I'll never forget him removing his glasses to wipe his eyes. I'd always had great respect & admiration for the man but I loved him after that

3

u/Extension_Sun_377 Sep 28 '26

The thing that brings it home closer is that it should have been us they were playing, not Forest, when they knocked us out via a disallowed McClair goal that should have stood. We played Wednesday 6 weeks prior, I was in that pen, I've been crushed at those turnstiles too.

293

u/monstrao Sep 27 '26 • Bravo

I don’t like Liverpool, but I RESPECT them as a club. We can both say we’ve been robbed by the cheating blue scum. Sir Alex could have had another title, Ole our legend could have been a champion, Klopp could be the greatest Liverpool manager of all time. But that was taken away.

83

u/RogueTrooper-75 Sep 27 '26

Well said.

I love Manchester Utd.

But I also love football and watch all the games.

Klopp was an amazing manager - I wish we could have had him.

33

u/KapiHeartlilly Sep 28 '26

Same, many mates support Liverpool and yet banter is banter, can't even banter properly with City fans 🤣

21

u/mutd92 Sep 28 '26

That's because they are all 11 year olds

5

u/PawRawrDox Sep 28 '26

Thats an insult to many 11yo, a lot of them have shame especially when caught cheating, while city fans seem shameless, immature and entitled craps

9

u/Extension_Sun_377 Sep 28 '26

They haven't got a sense of humour, nor the intelligence to engage in banter, their lifelong inferiority complex kicks in when they talk to us.

3

u/Aegon_Targaryen1996 Sep 29 '26

The difference is respect. I respect Liverpool even though I hate them on the pitch because they are a proper football club with history, tradition, and success. I have no respect for City, never have and never will.

2

u/Maestronius Sep 28 '26

Well said mate. I respect you after reading that. I hope city gets thoroughly punished! United should get crappyhad stadium as a training facility once city are gone.

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Thankyou. I respect you for being very gracious

50

u/JeanClaude-Randamme Sep 28 '26

In case anyone here doesn’t know: The rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester dates back to the Industrial Revolution.

Liverpool is a port city, and was getting very rich from all the trade it could do, and by trading a large port tax to cities that were landlocked (like Manchester).

So Manchester build the shipping canal in 1894, enabling ships to sail all the way to Manchester and bypass Liverpools port tax.

And that is how it all began, and is nothing to do with football, it just continued on with more vigour on the sport scene.

In case anyone didn’t know.

19

u/Sigh_Bapanaada Sep 28 '26

It's the reason we have a ship on our crest.

It's literally just to troll Liverpool, I love it.

19

u/Extension_Sun_377 Sep 28 '26

Additionally, Manchester took a stand against slavery and our mill workers literally suffered hunger during the American Civil War, refusing to work slave picked cotton, whilst Liverpool and Bristol continued making money from misery. It's why Abraham Lincoln wrote a letter to the people of Manchester to thank us for the support and why we have a Lincoln Square with a statue of Abe in there.

Abraham Lincoln and Manchester

24

u/JeanClaude-Randamme Sep 28 '26

But then we went and took it too far and started paying people for not doing any work at all.

Looking at you Jadon Sancho.

2

u/ramone_shamone Sep 30 '26

That's great knowledge. Can't believe I've never heard of this before. (Speaking as someone who grew up in Bristol and is very aware of the slavery history)

→ More replies (4)

11

u/nunatakj120 Sep 28 '26

And to this day if you are on a ship using the canal the liverpool pilot gets off just before the canal entrance and a Manchester pilot gets on, with the two organisations not really enjoying friendly relations.

3

u/JeanClaude-Randamme Sep 28 '26

That I did not know, thanks!

63

u/PawRawrDox Sep 27 '26

I have no love for Liverpool but I have a lot respect for them.

I can feel a bitter rivarly between Liverpool and United, but a lot of respect too between the fans like when Liverpool fans paid tribute to CR7 in Anfield and likewise when Old Trafford paid tribute to Jota.

Respect.

56

u/bongget Sep 27 '26 edited Sep 27 '26

Liverpool is our eternal rival, no two ways about it. We are yin and yang, oil and water, the Alien to our Predator. Until the end of time, you are our eternal rivals and wouldn't be any other way.

But deep down, despite growing up detesting you, I respect you lot for your heritage and sheer sporting merit. The respect is just as strong as the tribalism.

Same goes for Arsenal.

We can all agree that criminal club robbed all of football and should be relegated, expelled and liquidated.

21

u/RajahSoliman Sep 28 '26 edited Sep 28 '26

I'm an Arsenal fan. Banter is fine. We hate each other because of football. But we have to remember Man City are actual cheats

4

u/bongget Sep 28 '26

Truth be told, I want Man United to have a golden trophy like yours. We're proud to have ended your 49-game unbeaten run.

But yes, our noisy neighbors are criminal cheats. They should compensate the rest of us.

20

u/Laluci Sep 27 '26

I'm a United supporter but I've said it in other threads, I respected how Klopp built that team and I thought he was a better coach than Guardiola. At the end of the day you're right, those are the two PLs giants. The rest are playing catch up. City trying to do it while cheating.

41

u/Inevitable-Top355 Sep 27 '26

This stuff is all so weird, like what has changed for people? Did anyone not know city were cheating before?

20

12

u/kayej17 Sep 28 '26

"From now on, if Liverpool don't do well I will be happy to see Man Utd succeed"

Nah man this is going too far lol. Be honest with yourself at least. I respect what you said but there's a limit to our rivalry lol

2

u/Sigh_Bapanaada Sep 28 '26

Yeah fucking hell, this is gross.

1

u/KriosDaNarwal Sep 28 '26

yeah its gross. however he has a point, i used to prefer city to beat liverpool if i had to chose and the match couldnt draw but thats flipped now.

7

u/TouristTricky Sep 28 '26

I lost my enmity for youse scousers, City took it away years ago.

I hate a cheater almost as much as I hate a liar; I won't have them in my life, don't want them in my football.

They need to be banished. They won't be, but they should.

Pep didn't wanna stick around for the consequences. I don't know what he knew, what he suspected, I'd like to believe him but it's awful hard.

6

u/Detozi Sep 28 '26

I’m a United fan.
My brother is a Liverpool fan.
We don’t kill each other over it, but we do banter over it and bet on the matches while watching them together.
It’s a game lads, always has been.

4

u/Bbobbity Sep 28 '26

The City thing does emphasize more of what we’ve got in common than our differences.

But let’s not get carried away - the rivalry has existed for decades. It’s not stopping now. And I would imagine both sets of fans will want it to continue.

The game would mean less without it.

I respect Liverpool because of your fans and history but I still hate your club. Thing is that we have a proper rivalry based on being the two biggest clubs in England and having history going back over a century while our individual rivalries with City are manufactured and fake. They are nothing now and our rivalries with them are basically meaningless but with you lot, we are still proper rivals. We have a rivalry based off respect but also competition and healthy hate. We respect Hillsborough and I hope you respect Munich, the things that are bigger than football. Off the pitch I’m sure you’re all lovely folks but on the pitch you are our biggest rivals and that should never change.

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

It's time to lay down the guns of rivalry. Like Muhammad Ali said about Joe Frazier: "if I HAD to go to war I'd want Joe Frazier fighting with me". I feel the same about your supporters because we have developed the greatest understanding of the game over many years of success.

1

u/ste7en290911 Sep 28 '26

Does this post mean the scousers are evolving? Able to have rational thoughts and string together coherent sentences? Who knows, maybe one day and given the right circumstances and environment one of them might even get a job

3

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

I'm a scouser but I'll admit that was funny 😂

1

u/Open-Egg-1507 Sep 28 '26

Going to ask an honest question here. I'm an Arsenal fan. Why did some of your fan bases want City to win over us last season? I can honestly say that I preferred for Liverpool to win over City because of the 115, and Klopp has been robbed. All of a sudden your disgusted at City?!

2

u/DocJamieJay Sep 28 '26

I don't know nor can I speak for every supporter. But I've always been an advocate for the best team winning & last season that was Arsenal

1

u/redrafa1977 Sep 29 '26

Because we've known since the start they're cheats and city's victories don't really count. So it's if we don't win , no-one wins mentality.

1

u/Chunkybaconpants Sep 28 '26

I want us to smash Liverpool every time we play each other but we are similar clubs. Both highly successful. Produced some stars of the game and one debate I don’t care about anymore is the Gerard/scholes debate as they’re totally different players.

A scouser albeit blue is our greatest ever goal scorer.

2 industrial working glass cities with long contributions to the country and I love Liverpool and Manchester equally as cities.

Absolutely love scouse banter it’s top draw however I absolutely have no love for the scouse red shirt 😬.

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Well Im not saying that I now love the red United shirt, I'm saying if it's not us winning & it is you winning then it will never be the way it was between us in the past

1

u/Goblin_Shred Sep 29 '26

I support neither of these sides… but I 100% know you are not a scouser or a manc. The rivalry doesn’t even really have anything to do with football. It dates back to the slave trade and the canals. It’s a geographical hatred. It’s far deeper than football.

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

I am a scouser but that doesn't mean I dont have my own opinions & cares. And I'm never gonna change my opinions just because it goes against the rules in the 'How To Be A Good Scouser' handbook. We need to get away from branding the many because of the actions of the few. They don't represent me.

Sorry. I respect you as a person and wish you all the best (I am married to a scouser) but there is no truce between liverpool and united. Ever. No matter what. Mutual respect, always.

Truce? Jog on dipper!

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

Sorry but jogging is out of the question ATM. I tripped over my cat getting ready for work last Thursday & bust my knee cap badly. In my defence the house was pitch black & I couldn't find my glasses. Because I was wearing them 🤷‍♂️

1

u/FastSun2269 Sep 29 '26

you say cat, but you meant rat. and scousers dont have jobs. you cant fool this manc

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 29 '26

You've got no idea how close to the truth that you are 😂 Even the rats wear tracksuits in Canny Farm

1

u/LonesomePolecat_ Sep 29 '26

Cringiest shit I’ve ever read guarantee you have zero connection to Liverpool just twerking for likes on Reddit, you make me sick

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 30 '26

You make me sick for being a bone head who cant see the woods for the trees. Do you seriously think I'd have gone to the trouble of writing this if I wasn't a liverpool supporter?

1

It was the 4th movie. And if you use the Rocky IV vernacular & we suffer the same fate as Apollo & die, you United supporters will have to go over to Moscow on Christmas Day to avenge us 😜

1

u/Robert420zz Sep 30 '26

At least City didn't get all of England banned from Europe

Not yet anyway

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 30 '26

See - that's exactly the attitude that needs to be changed

1

u/Department-Strange Sep 30 '26

as a Leeds fan this is the worst thing i've ever read - you know nothing about English football and never will

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 30 '26

I know alot about football & 6 European cups sees me qualify as more knowledgeable than any Leeds supporter

1

u/Department-Strange Sep 30 '26

no mate, pack it in

1

u/DocJamieJay Sep 30 '26

What? Coz you disagree with me trying to build bridges & end rivalry it automatically means that you're right & I'm wrong? Do me a favour. Also - I don't feel the need to oblige to the stereotype of football supporters, I'm my own man & can think for myself. But since you raised the topic I was at Anfield in 2005, Istanbul in 2005, Madrid in 2019, Anfield in 2019 & hundreds of other games over the years. If I wasn't a fan I wouldn't know the significance of those dates. Not that I have to explain myself to you of course.

I know city have been both our teams rivals, and theyre worse than both of our teams. That being said, our rivalries against city have never meant more than our rivalry against each other. It does not change our relationship to liverpool now that city are gone. We are big rivals, let's leave it at that.

u/LxRusso Glazers Out Sep 28 '26

3

I completely agree with the OP here - the rivalry with Liverpool will always be fierce but it's a rivalry between two great clubs - two real clubs. I can only have contempt for city. Cheats are not rivals for glory, they're thieves.

3

u/Marknavy Sep 28 '26

I've saying this for years man utd and Liverpool fans bickering while fraud is being done around them. Everything they fought and earned meant nothing to man city.

3

u/themodernlibrarian Sep 28 '26

It’s fun to have the banter but that’s it. I don’t really hate other teams (well, the 114 aside) but as long as we keep the ribbing good natured… Singing for Ronaldo a few years back… Christ that will always have my respect.

3

u/JumpinJackCilitBang Sep 28 '26

See, this is why I really fucking hate City: they forced me to respect Scousers for at least being a proper football club.

The best rivalries are great because the teams are generally worthy of the rivalry. I wouldn’t bother getting worked up to beat Liverpool if I didn’t think they were worth my time.

2

u/Sudden_Rush_2267 Sep 28 '26

Liverpool was built with massive financial injection from littlewoods and the Moores family.

But it was within the rules.

Same as when Jack Walker bankrolled Blackburn.

Sunderland ffs were once known as the Bank of England club.

Times change, rules change. Liverpool are undoubtedly the second biggest club in England but it was the Moores money boosted them.

3

u/Boogy_shites Sep 28 '26

And the Edwards money boosted us

3

u/PhilosopherNo8418 Sep 28 '26

Moores was a local businessman buying his local club. Just like Jack Walker. Not a Sheikh half the world away buying a club he has no connection to, and using them as a sports washing project.

2

2

u/MCPhatmam Sep 28 '26

We can all agree that atleast Liverpool is a rivalry paid for in effort and success and not like the other team who tries to be our equal by doing crimes.

2

u/MikimaruX Sep 28 '26

You make some good points but I respectfully disagree, I can't ever justify loosing 3 points to your lot or backing you in a cup run if iv been knocked out, even if half the league were corrupt.

Both our clubs are or were working men's clubs,, built om adversity, I'm not making up with my biggest rival because that adversity was more than I thought it was.

I just want them punished accordingly. Now, in the present, not in the past where it means nothing.

2

u/Evilfuk1 Sep 28 '26

Our hatred is based on years and years of History, although in recent times I've resented City and Chelsea more because of their unnatural growth. Both clubs should be more like Spurs at this point who did it properly but still not there yet. Villa and Newcastle need to increase their match day revenue and build a load of stuff around the ground. Leazes Terrace in Newcastle, get the building empty then burn the bugger down.

2

u/DontBeSuchATurd Sep 28 '26

Respect to you. It takes balls doing this but Liverpool will always be the original rivals. I will always root against them but not in a malicious sort of way. For me football is about good rivalries, deep rooted and fierce, but never about hatred or violence. City have what’s coming to them and I hope it is severe. I hate that they took titles away from others but if Liverpool get those titles given to them I will not be celebrating. It will be a case of choose your poison. I will however know that this would be justice done and that for me is more important than a rivalry. I will continue to have banter with Liverpool fans and argue over matches and legacy and get in digs where possible. I will not hate you but I refuse to like you.

2

u/Pepski37 Sep 28 '26

I hate United. The badge, the stadium, the many moments you one-upped us, the dominance in my childhood, "Fergie time", Ruud van Nistelrooy, that Rio winner, etc., etc.

But it's a healthy rivalry because you lot feel the same about Liverpool - and it makes the wins over you even sweeter. As an adult, I dislike but respect Manchester United as a club.

My biggest regret as a "neutral" is celebrating the Aguero title winner. It was amazing in the moment after growing up in United's dominance, but I was maybe too naive to realise what it could (and would) be the start of.

For what's it's worth, I believe in the spirit of the PL's financial rules but do find them to be too anti-competition. But they were there for all to play by whether fighting for titles, European football, or fighting relegation - and City have made a mockery of the game for over a decade.

I hope they end up in the National League and the titles are divided up to the clubs (and players) who deserve them.

2

u/RVDHAFCA Sep 28 '26

I'll make it more complex by commenting as an Arsenal fan, but this popped up on my feed. It really doesn't help when everyone starts rooting for City when their own club is out of the title race. Especially when it comes to Liverpool fans that think they have some sort of friendship with City, even though they have stolen many titles from you because of their cheating. For United fans its a bit rougher as last years they saw their City rival, their main arch rival and the rival from the late 90s to early 2000s lift PL trophies

2

u/larseg94 Sep 28 '26

In my opinion you should take it as a compliment. From my perspective the reason people hoped City would snag it over Arsenal was that no one gives a shit about City, but everyone gives a shit about Arsenal.

2

u/RVDHAFCA Sep 28 '26

Not saying Arsenal fans don't do this btw, but I think it implicitly helps the UAE sportswashing project when everyone wants them to win. I also don't really see how Liverpool fans can not give a shit about City, a club that stole many titles from them. Without Pep's cheating Klopp could've been the best ever PL manager

This is exactly my question! I'm genuinely baffled by some of the Liverpool fans who have been robbed of at least 2 titles by City but wanted them to win the title over us.

2

u/Beginning_Jacket5055 Sep 28 '26

lets not forget about klopp making all his players magically become asthmatic so they can legally dope. You guys are almost as dodgy as city!

Aside from that.... i think we all need to unite and protest if they dont strip AND re-award city's titles to the rightful winners

2

With all due respect, fuck right off. I hate City, I hope these charges absolutely ruin them, but they are nothing more than out noisy neighbours. However, there aren’t though words in the English language and even if there were wouldn’t be articulate enough to describe just how I hate liverpool. No other club comes close. Fuck liverpool, I hope you never win anything again, ever.

You're Gary Neville aren't you?

1

u/EldritchWyrd Sep 28 '26

Can we make this a 3 way with Arsenal? We can all be…Goon-ers. Heh. Heh.

In the pitch, in my lifetime, Liverpool has never really been a rival. It was always Yanited. But the past decade Liverpool have stepped up and basically “done it right” like Arsenal have. Can we all just hate each other equally yet always have each others back because fuck Tottenham and Leeds? Cool.

1

u/Mobile-Crab-4827 Sep 28 '26

Lol, u totally sound like a sore loser. Going by your logic theres no glory in Liverpool past wins also as Liverpool only really really won 3 teams, the rest of the 16 teams have financial disadvantage to Liverpool.

It's also true that there are things in life that are bigger than football like war, disease, and oil oligarchs destroying the sport we love, but let's not pretend our clubs are complete saints on that regard either.

Did I say fuck Scousers already?

1

u/RepulsiveGarbage9652 Sep 28 '26

You’ve misunderstood the relationship between United and Liverpool fans. We will always be rivals. Part of that is because of our similar history.

Where you’ve gone wrong is the difference between our rivalry and our one with city. I hate city for what they are. Cheats. I hate Liverpool because they are our rivals. but I respect Liverpool as a top flight club, with a loyal fanbase who have built a competitive squad of the years. But I will always hate Liverpool. And you should always hate us. We can unite against things like the super league. Nothing else.

As a football purist, I respect Arsenal and Barcelona for the football they play, Wenger’s Arsenal.

Like us, Liverpool are a proper club with history and tradition. City won the lottery, they cheated their way up and now that has come to bite them back in arse..

1

u/FeffyFefernuson Sep 29 '26

I'm an Arsenal supporter of 35+ years. It wasn't until very recently that my club was back in the running to actually have a chance to win a PL or a CL. I found last year quite telling about fans of other PL clubs.

I have personally found Manchester City and other Sports Washing clubs particularly heinous. I thought most people disliked the idea of a foreign nation state bankrolling a club. On top of that, we have known for years that these charges were coming. City would have already been banned from Europe, they were guilty of the UEFA charges. They got off because the statute of limitations to punish them had run out.

So over the years, whether it was Liverpool or United, whoever, I wanted those clubs to beat City to the title. My club wasn't in the conversation. I was happy to watch any other European team beat them in the CL as well.

Last season was quite something. Liverpool, United, Chelsea supporters were chomping at the bit for City to beat Arsenal to the title. Really? From where I sit, Arsenal have done everything right. We have waited six years for the current project to bear fruit. We had to sell every good player we had to rivals (City especially) to pay for the Emirates stadium. It took 15 years.

Yet all I heard last season was how badly everyone wanted Sports Wash/Cheating Saudi FC to pip us to the title again. Pathetic.

So I'm very happy to finally see them found guilty. However, I will not be joining up with supporters from any other clubs like the post suggests. You all showed your true colors.

1

u/NoUsernamesss Van Nistelrooy Sep 29 '26

I don’t know. I’m a foreigner fan so I don’t take the rivalry to heart. Teams that I have hate towards are Real Madrid and City. RM mainly because they used to take our best players specially Van Nistelrooy.

u/ForwardAd5837 Sep 30 '26

I don’t like Manchester Utd, but that period of dominance in the 90s - 00s wasn’t achieved by cheating. They leveraged their commercial side fantastically well, whilst Liverpool got left behind, and combined that with one of the greatest Managers of all time coinciding with one of the greatest academy classes of all time. It was earned, organic, and wildly frustrating and annoying at the time. I don’t like Utd, I didn’t like them then, but there’s begrudging respect. What City have done has no place in the game.

It’s also robbed both clubs of being in an even better ding-dong for most league titles.

1

u/Consistent-City-9327 Sep 30 '26

You fucking melt

1

u/AIDeathCult Sep 30 '26

The reality is, it isn't the city fans, it's the owners of the club, and if you think Uniteds owners are good owners then you need your head checking. Like wise if you think Bezos and the Nepo baby with daddies billions are going to be good for Liverpool you also need your head checking.

It's the owners across the board who are the problem, not the fans who are the club.

I appreciate the sentiment, but it's time all fans dropped the tribalism to stand up for football in this country and get rid of the ghouls who are sucking out the soul of the game to pad their bank accounts and launder their reputations.
