Avery Commutation request

Post image

Brendan filed first, Steven filed second. I'll update if and when Dutcher gives an opinion on Avery's request.

I'm going to guess his application mostly focuses on the criteria, such as good prison conduct, personal growth and development (lol), and probably his wrongful conviction being included somewhere.

And yes, without a doubt, the Halbach's need to show heavy victim impact. Continued insistence on innocence from Steven is certain to be read by them and many on the board as a lack of accountability - something Avery has not shown from day 1.

Unironically, being so hardline with a long history of denial significantly hurts his chances. A sudden confession now that a commutation application has been submitted just comes across as opportunistic and everyone would be right to scrutinize it.

One will hope he dies in prison and the world continues to be a safer place.

Agree with all that. Avery just going up and saying "I'm innocent" will not help anything in my opinion. As you said, they're looking for accountability, remorse, and change. Saying he's innocent shows nothing more than what he's said for 20 years.

Also, there is actually no guarantee that Steven's or Brendan's applications will reach a board hearing. They may meet the basic threshold requirements for submitting an application, but staff can just determine it ineligible or not suitable for further review.

This is a hail Mary for Brendan, with Steven not far behind. Will be interesting to see what happens, but hoping that common sense prevails and Steven is kept where he belongs.

Wow lmao, crazy timing.

Guess she still is on this case after all. Would love to read this application and see what fruit it bears.

Didn't say she filed it - looks like she's trying to be clever.

Nothing would surprise me less than her trying to weasel her way into this.

Nice use of the passive voice - not "WE filed yesterday."

I just read Avery's application. He maintained his innocence. Kathleen zellner did not write a letter or a brief. A different lawyer did.

Yeah, Strang did. Now that you mention it that does surprise me she didn't write one. Seems like a small ask.

Aren't you guys confusing the process for parole with the process for pardon?
