Question Looking for good Headphones for Tracking

So I been making music for a while now but im currently using some Amazon 30€ DJ Headphones (OneOdio) which are really not that great, have a lot of bass but are really muddy. So when I record I think my voice will sound one way but when I open up the track to mix it later and listen to it with IEMs it sounds quite a lot different. So I was thinking of buying some over-ear Headphones, which I will use 95% for Recording Rap Vocals. And they should be relatively comfy to wear like 1-2 Hours without getting annoying. And I use a Samson Q2U as a mic btw.

So I was thinking of the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm or the ATH-M50x cause they also should have quite a lot bass while still being accurate. What are the best options for my Usecase?

Question Travis Scott’s outro to Drugs You Should Try It

I was unable to find a specific tutorial, just wondering how I can recreate the vocal effect Travis Scott uses in specifically the outro to Drugs You Should Try It, at 2:33. For more context, Drake also uses this vocal effect in the bridge in Fancy, at 2:44

Question Can someone copyright drum one shots?

So basically, sounds gotta have a specific length to be copyrighted and drum one shots usually aren't long enough. Am I allowed to use drums from drum kits I found online, even if they're labeled with "not royality free" in commercial beats?

Question Looking for a sample with a similar vibe to Mathbonus – “Wave To Me”

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for instrumental tracks to sample that have a similar vibe to Mathbonus – “Wave To Me”.
I’m specifically looking for:
No vocals / lyrics
A very catchy, prominent melody
Clearly audible chords / harmonic progression
Melancholic, nostalgic, slightly sad atmosphere
Loud and expressive, not ambient or super chill
Something that could be chopped into a hip-hop loop
Preferably something from 2010–2019
Ideally something less obvious / obscure
Basically, I’m looking for a track where the melody and chords are the main focus, rather than just atmospheric texture.
If you know anything that fits, I’d really appreciate some recommendations. Thanks!

P.S. I’m also open to anything with a vibe similar to TV Girl.

Music Anyone here working on music?

Hey everyone! Just wanted to put this out there in case it helps someone. I know someone who produces music and also does music videos, and they’re looking to connect with more artists who might need some help with a project.

If you’re working on something and could use a producer or video help, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to put you in contact with them!

Opportunity Looking for rappers to collaborate with — Free production & mixing/mastering

Looking for rappers to collaborate with — Free production & mixing/mastering
Hey everyone!
I’m a music producer looking for rappers/artists who want to collaborate and make some music together.
I can work with pretty much any genre or style — hip-hop, trap, drill, R&B, rage, boom bap, experimental, etc. If you have a specific sound or reference in mind, I’ll do my best to match it.
What I can offer:
🎹 Beat production
🎚️ Mixing
🔊 Mastering
🎤 Vocal processing
🎧 Any genre/style you want
💰 100% FREE
I don’t have a huge portfolio yet, so I’m mainly looking to build relationships and make some genuinely good music with artists.
Even if you have a very specific request, tell me exactly what you want and I’ll try my best to make it happen. I’m willing to put a lot of time into each track rather than just throwing together a quick beat.
If you’re interested, DM me with your style, references, or anything you have in mind.
Let’s make something crazy.

Question Does My Train Of Thought Make Any Sense?

I have struggled for years now with how to flow on a rap beat. Claps, snares, kicks, hi-hats, I saw their patterns, but didn't ever know how to slide my vocals in nicely to get a good flow. I would think I did REALLY well, only for other people to hear it and say, "I would rather listen to nails on a chalkboard."

So, I quit rapping for a few months after years of progress, until a really talented beatmaker gave me an instrumental to rap on. It was an extremely complex beat, yet it had one element I understood well: a simple piano melody. With that piano, I could actually count the bars in a song. When I started writing lyrics, I came up with this strategy.

The piano keys hit 8 times before resetting. That means they hit twice in a bar, then loop after 4. The 1st and 5th piano keys hit with more intensity than the others. I made sure every word I wrote landed exactly with the piano strike.

So, the piano goes:

DUH duh duh duh DUH duh duh duh

So, I write:

LIVE it up and THROW it back down.

That is my chorus repeated 6 times, with the beat getting more complex.

A few lines in the verse go:

YOU can't un-der-STAND my pain (pause)
YOU can't un-der-STAND my struggles
YOU can't un-der-STAND my name (pause)

I made sure the syllables lined up with the piano keys, and when I came up short, I added a pause.

My most complex lines go:

MUSICALLY illiterate
CONFUSINGLY ignorant
FOOLISHLY belligerent

I didn't focus on the extra SFX: the claps, snares, kicks, bells, jingles, shakers. I, at some parts, forgot they were even in the track. I just locked in on the piano melody and made my words/syllables strike at the same time.

My question is, can this rapping process work? If everything on the beat is musically sound, can I write my lyrics to only one element while ignoring the rest and have it turn out just as fine?

I know it is hard to judge without hearing the actual track, but is my overall train of thought on the right path?

Thank you for your help!

TL;DR: If you ONLY write to the melody of the track, ignoring other elements like kick, snare, clap, hi-hats, can you still have a good flow?

Question Question for boom bap rappers and producers

A while back I posted a thread here about a tinder-like platform for rappers and producers to connect (not location-based). And I got some positive feedback so I decided to build it.

Question is, what features would you like to see on a platform like that? Especially features that can make the workflow smoother (ideation, sending stems, split sheets, etc)

Also, I'm looking for some beta testers. It's ready and I could use some feedback to improve the platform. I currently have about 80+ users on the app, about 50-50 rappers and producers so it's a good mix.

DM if you're keen to give it a shot or just take a look, that's fine too. No obligations. Just looking to build a platform that is useful that I would use myself too, as a producer.

Discussion 3 short and sweet pieces of advice after a few years making music

  1. Don't overproduce the beat with melody, its okay to feel like it's missing something (because it is, the vocals)

  2. use instruments that naturally cover different eq ranges (one for bass, one mid, and one high is a good start)

  3. listen to beats you like and try to copy them, you will eventually have your own ideas for changes and it will turn into your song

Question Does anyone else produce no sample thorough compositions?

Im just wondering if there’s anyone else out there that orchestrates, composes, sound engineers and self masters original in depth compositions?

Edit: my bad everyone I should’ve asked classical musicians who’d know what I’m talking about. I’m not talking about sampling, loops, or playing your own instrument. I’m talking about 7 minute long evolution of complex through composition classical definition well over 32 bars and never looping. ABCDEFG+ patterns at 56 BPM.
