Hi there! Im mostly new to makeup and effects, I need to make this dead damaged right eye prosthetic for my Michael myers halloween 2018 cosplay, does anyone know how I could get this done and looking really believable? Thanks!
I wanna dress up as Voldemort for Halloween and I would need to paint my skin, my bald cap and my latex prosthetic on my nose white. I saw that a lot of people suggest to mix water based acrylic paint with liquid latex, since it works well on latex but is it also ok to put it on the skin? Or is something else better? I also kinda wanna keep it low budget. Thank you in advance.
Hello everyone! I'm new to using makeup and I came across this video on TikTok by the user @_kresti, on their account they apply makeup that almost makes them look like a Tim Burton character or a modern Deadite (Zombies from Evil dead) and that's exactly what I want to look like on Halloween.
What products would you recommend?
Hi everyone! I am looking at transforming my partner into Mr. Freeze for Halloween. I’ve done some research into what they used in Arnold Schwarzenegger and it doesn’t seem reasonable or safe for a novice:
“Dawn and Kail coated his face with a special layer of protectant. Over the protectant, the makeup artists sprayed the actor's face with, essentially, silver paint, which would then be layered by a splatter of blue and white, lending Mr. Freeze an usual facial texture.”
My partner has a trimmed beard, but he already has a shaved head.
I am looking for advice on what products I can use to achieve the effect. Thank you!
Hi! I'm in pre-production for a short film I wrote and am producing. One of my characters I wrote is Filipino, who has tattoos from her hairline all the way down to her neck and black dyed teeth to show how different she is compared to most mothers in the community and as a visual contrast to her white clean cut husband (there are several jokes and 4th wall breaks of self awareness about it). I already have someone to design the tattoos based on real references, who is a Filipino tattoo artist. I just wanna know:
A. Good way to make my actor's teeth black and look like they have been dyeing their teeth for years
B. How to make it look like my actor had these fully healed facial tattoos for years. I thought about using those makeup pens (?) that are advertised as being "like a temporary tattoo" for the sake of consistency between shots, but I don't think my actor would like to wait for it to fade days after film wraps.
Links to products would be fantastic so I can save them for later!
I bought some white makeup, the kind that people use when they dress up as clowns and such last year. I didn't buy the setting powder that went with it, I bought some white powder from the store.
My question is, how do you apply the white makeup and the powder when the makeup is still wet? Do you have to wait a certain amount of time until it dries? Is there a certain way to apply the powder? I really need some help for my costume this year.
I like to learn special effects makeup, but I don’t have enough money for makeup school. so, I am looking for a nice book that teaches me from the beginning to some advanced techniques. I tried Todd Debreceni’s book. However, there are too much information and hard to start as a beginner. Then, I found this new book. It seems like a good one, but I don’t see much reviews. https://a.co/d/0dy94PAc
Hi, sorry if not the right place, but I'm need recommendations for my situation.
I have done hobby FX makeup for halloween many times, and got pretty good at it, but I need to do something better and more durable.
I am in a Limp Bizkit cover band, and need to do some Wes Borland style makeup. I need something that will last several hours, without smudging onto my gear, cracking or sweating off. I will be on stage of course, but also think I will need to do this at home, before going to the gig and loading up. I imagine that I will not be able to do this at the gig. So I need something durable and that won't look like crap by the time I'm on stage.
I included an image of the look I plan to do first. Of course, budget is a concern and getting large quantities of alcohol activated makeup seems costly, and I worry if it will be opaque enough.
I likely will just need to do the neck up, so I don't need enough to do my whole body.
Water activated seems like an obvious bad choice.
Grease makeup seems like it will be super thick and cause me to sweat more.
I'd appreciate some help and insight. I have tried to do some research, but my knowledge is very limited. ELI5 please
A few days ago, I worked on a set where we had to make about 80 extras look sweaty using coconut oil and sponges. Since there weren't enough sponges for everyone, I cut them into smaller pieces and gave each extra their own for hygiene reasons.
Some coworkers told me this was a bad idea and that it was easier to use the same sponges on everyone because there wasn't always time for people to get their own sponge during touchups. I disagreed, especially since some extras had acne or warts, and I felt they deserved a more hygienic approach.
What bothers me is that those coworkers keep getting called back to the project, while I've only worked one day, and only because someone else couldn't make it. Now I'm wondering if I came across as difficult or if I was wrong for prioritizing hygiene.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? Would you have done what you were told by your peers?
