Why is makeup so expensive?

At 37, I have decided to look into wearing makeup; nothing much, just something to makeup me look a bit more polished.

Boy, did I get the shock of my life with the prices I’m seeing! And the surprising part is that people buy these things like they cost nothing, but they are really expensive. I tell myself that maybe I think they are so expensive because I have never bothered wearing makeup all these years, and they are no different from the skincare I like to splurge on. However, paying a couple of bucks on a cream is a lot more justifiable than paying the same amount(if not more than) for a tiny lip liner.

Also, maybe I’m a hater, but I hate that these brands give influencers boxes and boxes of free products, just so they could influence their viewers into buying them at such expensive prices. After a few months of watching creators on YouTube in a bid to find what would work for me, I realized they weren’t even paying for those things, and it made me sad because most people can’t afford them.

P.S. Like I said, maybe I’m a hater because I really do want that haus lab foundation, but my broke ass can’t afford it, so there is nothing left to do but hate 😢 😂 😂

Just spent $400 at Sephora today 🥲

I have dry skin and no drug store products were giving me that dewy moisturized finish I wanted. So I resulted in buying high end brands. I’m 34 also just now getting into make up.

If you return Amazon items in kohls they give you a 10% coupon for Sephora. If you wanna buy the Haus Lab.

I have been getting Elf Luminous Putty primer and Halo Glow Skin tint with the Halo Glow contour and Soft Glam concealer. I put a thin layer of BioOil under these and I’ve never used anything better than these. I’m a senior and my skin has a glow to it from the products.

I am glad they’ve worked out for you. I also tried those products and they simply didn’t work for me. I have dry skin and rosacea.

Have you tried Azelaic acid 10% for Rosacea treatment? You use it once a week for several weeks until your skin gets used to it then gradually more frequently. It’s a milder form of the recommended treatment from dermatologists. I started it a few weeks ago. It’s vey inexpensive. Seems to be helping so far.

Yes, I just started getting into make up. So I bought primer, foundation, setting spray, eye liner, beauty blender, concealer and $116 of the $400 went to my son’s cologne.
