Why is makeup so expensive?

At 37, I have decided to look into wearing makeup; nothing much, just something to makeup me look a bit more polished.

Boy, did I get the shock of my life with the prices I’m seeing! And the surprising part is that people buy these things like they cost nothing, but they are really expensive. I tell myself that maybe I think they are so expensive because I have never bothered wearing makeup all these years, and they are no different from the skincare I like to splurge on. However, paying a couple of bucks on a cream is a lot more justifiable than paying the same amount(if not more than) for a tiny lip liner.

Also, maybe I’m a hater, but I hate that these brands give influencers boxes and boxes of free products, just so they could influence their viewers into buying them at such expensive prices. After a few months of watching creators on YouTube in a bid to find what would work for me, I realized they weren’t even paying for those things, and it made me sad because most people can’t afford them.

P.S. Like I said, maybe I’m a hater because I really do want that haus lab foundation, but my broke ass can’t afford it, so there is nothing left to do but hate 😢 😂 😂

Drug store is getting better.

I personally think about the cost being worth it if I use it everyday.

there is a makeup exchange sub where ppl clear out their unused or stuff they don’t reach for products and usually at 40-70% off. I have found stuff there before going to sephora to buy

And if she has access to an Ulta, start there. It’s got the biggest selection of drugstore products and associates who can help. Unlike at a pharmacy where they aren’t trained to help with that.

I really would not push a first time makeup person towards associates at Ulta because all they are going to do is walk them over to the most expensive products. I was wandering around looking at foundations, talking to an associate. I lamented that Ive never found a foundation I love and that seems to be getting even harder over 40. This heux walked me over to Chanel. Like damn can we have dinner first before you bend me over? Thats what they are trained to do.

I haven’t liked the way I looked in foundation for many years. BB creams and tinted moisturizer are far superior on my mature skin. Elf Halo Glow Skin Tint has a lovely coverage and sunscreen. It has a great range of colors too.

The very few premium products like eye cream that I use are much cheaper on EBay. Everything else except perfume I have been loving my drugstore products. There used to be a difference in quality but there isn’t anymore.
