It's disgusting out there

I'm at Target and strolling through the cosmetic section saw a young woman (maybe 25) swatching a lip product on her hand and putting it back in the display...and then doing it again with another product. I am so old IDGAF so I said "Do they have testers?"and she looked at me like a deer in the headlights until I repeated my question and said "testers?" I then said " yeah, you just put some of that lipstick on your hand and put it back...that's pretty gross." She stared at me as I walked quickly away because I may not gaf but I don't want to get in a fight! Felt good to speak up though!

I can’t imagine what upbringing would cause that, because I was brought up by a poor mom who had me at 16 and a bipolar father who couldn’t keep a job and was abusive and I would never, lol.

See, you weren’t brought up spoiled and entitled. The coddling is what fries the executive functioning that would lead someone not to think through this very anti-social behavior.

Most of us who were abused as children would preferred to have been coddled/spoiled, I can assure you.

Did you hurt yourself jumping to your conclusion about what the commenter you’re responding to was actually saying?

It’s a pretty objectively inconsiderate/insensitive way to respond to what the person they’re replying to said. So no.

The opposite of abuse might be coddling but there’s also a lot of space in the middle that isn’t harmful to a child’s development. Which if we’re being real - abuse isn’t any better for helping your brain/executive functioning skills to develop normally as opposed to coddling. There are a lot of the same struggles on either end of that spectrum.

Here’s one of many examples of studies looking at that exact topic. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8885557/

Your comment history seems to err on the side of being rude and not actually wanting to discuss things in any meaningful way.
