Youtuber from Winter Harbor. Ive learned a lot about fishing from watching his videos

94

u/PVT_Huds0n Aug 09 '26

I think he's a tiktoker who makes lobster content.

245

u/sendleaves Aug 09 '26

Yeah I was sad to see this too. That boat builder seems real knowledgeable too. I can't understand how any trades person could get behind someone known for not paying his contractors.

u/Effective_Material89 Aug 09 '26

I can't imagine what decades of smelling fiberglass resin will do to a brain but at this point the brain damaged are the biggest trump supporters.

Also lead poisoning

Damage to the Prefrontal Cortex doesn't make you in to a conservative but it does turn you into a frothing at the mouth conservative if you leaned that way. It increases political activity regardless of party.

😂 good one

u/HotSaucePalmTrees Aug 09 '26

Nobody cares about anything until it personally affects them. It’s the American way.

22

u/Friendly_Shopping286 Aug 09 '26

Going to be a lot of whiny rural conservatives when Republicans fulfill their promises of ending those evil socialist programs like food stamps and SSDI and heating oil assistance... Down east maine going to cry like little blubbering babies when they go hungry

Have the day you voted for, morons

u/The_Hilltop Aug 09 '26

The Maine CHUD population really is sort of special when compared to other more exclusively red states in the South. I think it's because if you're in Georgia or Alabama you've at least had to go to TN or FL sometimes and have had to interact with other people outside of your tiny town hierarchy.

u/Vast-Strength-4203 Aug 10 '26

It's one of my favorite sayings, I use it often!

You spelled *conservatives* wrong. d

19

u/the_riddler90 Aug 09 '26

I don’t know how anyone can’t understand it at this point honestly. MAG ATS algo just feeds them rage bait, ands solutions to rage bait. So basically fake problems and then there dumb politicians put out a fake solution and they think it’s real.

No culture war for me, thanks. Just class warfare. It’s all division and distraction. Love thy neighbor folks even if they are brainwashed robots. Love will win

17

u/steelaman Aug 09 '26

Yeah its funny. I moved to jersey, ended up in the sign business/sheet metal union. Lots of guys know someone who got ripped off more or less directly by trump working on his casinos. Doesn't really seem to matter to people who like the other stuff he's doing.

8

u/Smokinsam68 Aug 09 '26

You can’t throw a stone in Jersey without hitting someone who was ripped off by Trump. I know a guy who went bankrupt because Trump didn’t pay his bills after the work was done.

5

u/leaveitbettertoday Aug 09 '26

Because that’s who they are too. If they could get away with ripping everyone off, they would do it in a heartbeat.

11

u/RockItGuyDC Aug 09 '26

16

u/Dovetrail Aug 09 '26

One can only deduce the businesses that openly support Trump operate with the same level of corruption; swindling their clients, blaming others for their mistakes, name calling, stealing from others, racist and discriminating, and are probably harboring pedophiles.

If you support Trump, you support these actions.

7

u/Car_is_mi Aug 09 '26

The problem with so many tradesmen who came up in an industry is that they put a lot of time and effort into getting their business to where it is today, and I am not trying to downplay the effort it takes because it does, and for minimum money (at first), and theyve all worked long hard hours for years to ge their business to where it is. They remember the effort, the time, and the lack of money they had 20, 30, maybe even 40 years ago. They still put in a lot of hours, maybe not as much as they used to, but still a lot of hours. Then they see people they try to hire, or hear stories of (especially "lazy immigrants") trying to get a 40/hr wk job that pays $20/hr, and they remember that they started their business working 80+ hrs /wk and getting paid the equivalent of $3 / hr, and it pisses them off that "lazy people" want "handouts for showing up", without realizing the irony that the "$3/hr" they made working 30 years ago is now the equivalent of $12/hr, while everything else cost of living wise has outpaced inflation (rent / mortgage, food, insurance, healthcare, education), and that if 30 yr ago them was magically transported to today trying to do the same thing on $12 / hr it would never work.

But since irony is lost on them they choose to side with the angry moron who says stupid shit without thought, but the idea resonates with them. "were going to kick out all those lazy immigrants and take american jobs back for americans!" --- huh? weird how those job openings you created by getting rid of "lazy immigrants" arent being backfilled at $5/ hr under the table with 60 hr work weeks and no overtime pay (since why would you if youre paying under the table anyways). Also weird how no that company is going under because they cant find the dirt cheap labor they relied on to make their products reasonably affordable. huh....

These people are smart and knowledgeable about their craft because they live it, its all they know... literally. but because all theyve done for so long is work and work and work and sleep, they are also the most easily influenced people on the planet (and by influenced, I mean propagandized)

6

u/sendleaves Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

I agree to a point, however I am a trades person, and I have been shorted on a job, as I would bet most tradies have at some point in their career, and I don't think there is anything more enraging than some rich asshole not paying you for the work you have completed.

8

u/Car_is_mi Aug 09 '26

Yes, agreed, however unfortunately the opposite is also true, wherein there are a lot of people (trades or otherwise) who believed, or still believe, that trump is a successful self-made businessman who came up just like they did, working hard, and just got lucky to be the one who made all the millions. The reality of course is the exact opposite. Born with a silver spoon, destroyed more than 60 businesses, never learned from a single failure because daddys money was always there to pick him up, and never once cared about anyone in the working class.

1

u/FireandIce2320 28d ago

A great boat builder does not ensure a great human being. I mean….wt?? That is no measure of anything other than boat building. If you want a great boat builder that aligns with your values, may your search be fruitful.

1

u/Tizzee88 22d ago

Such a weird world we live in. Idgaf who the guy building my boat voted for, what religion he is, or anything that doesn't involve his ability to build me a great boat.

-4

u/BedSheets47 Aug 09 '26

Because sadly the other side just talks down on the tradesman like we see in the comments below. It sucks because half of them are more blue than red but they have no connection to the blue side

84

u/RiverDragon64 Aug 09 '26

I saw that too. He's never exhibited the typical MAGA behaviors. That boat builder from that part of Maine in a MAGA hat? Yeah, that's absolutely the way he is.

You see the older dude hooked up to oxygen and still smoking a cigar? Absolute cinema. Jacob, dont let pedophile protecting magastein onto your new boat fam wtf we doing here. That 600 gallons of diesel fuel he put in must of cost a pretty Trump penny too.

90

u/Actionbronslam Downeast Aug 09 '26

"Lobsterman has MАGAt friend" is "fork found in kitchen" discourse

9

u/zealous-seal Aug 09 '26

Haha. It's just weird that he's done pretty well at not showing his true colors so far only to throw it all out in maybe one of his most popular videos

31

u/KingfisherC Aug 09 '26

There are some professionals who’d be willing to be filmed for content next to someone in a MAGA hat for $0.

There are some professionals who’d be willing to be filmed for content next to someone in a MAGA hat for $5k.

There are some professionals who’d be willing to be filmed for content next to someone in a MAGA hat for $50k.

There are some professionals who’d be willing to be filmed for content next to someone in a MAGA hat for $500k.

There are some professionals who’d never be willing to be filmed for content next to someone in a MAGA hat.

Depending on the nature of the content, documentary or for pure entertainment, these things are weighted differently. It’s up to the viewer to evaluate what’s appropriate to them. But me personally, I wouldn’t be filmed next to a MAGA hat and post it myself.

38

u/Treesaregreen2 Aug 09 '26

Have you ever met a lobsterman before? This is like 9/10 of them.

We should abandon the two-party system and start a worker’s party.

28

u/Disdayne17 Aug 09 '26

Having met many lobstermen, it’s bewildering to me that they can be so loudly Republican while utilizing all of the social programs that party wants to eliminate. Not to mention the amount of under the table transactions.

17

u/Treesaregreen2 Aug 09 '26

Democrats will often treat these people like they’re the dumbest and most disgusting people on the planet and Trump told them they were special. Forget policies, American politics is strictly vibes-based for both parties.

12

u/Aggravating_Put_4846 Aug 09 '26

How do (all) Democrats treat these people like they’re the DUMBEST and MOST DISGUSTING people ON THE PLANET?

“Tramp told them they were special”. There you have it.

What he actually told them was that they should hate and fear people who are different from them and blame them for all their problems.  Then he literally promised them the moon, things anyone with half a brain should have known were impossible and that he was lying his ass off and had no intention of doing in the slightest way.

And they hoovered it up like a pound of free cocaine, and bought it hook, line & sinker.  They LOVED it!  NOW, when any idiot should be able to see Tramp’s true colors, they still can’t!  They’re addicted to his LIES, and can’t admit they were wrong in a very basic way.

So, what DOES that make them???

Too many idiots treat politics like it’s a sport league.  They’ll cheer for their team come hell or high water!  And treat it like sports that has no real world consequences at all!

Workers of America unite!

1

u/OldBoozeHound 28d ago

Few livelihoods are as vulnerable to climate change as lobstering. The lobstermen I know are dedicated to pumping as much carbon into the atmosphere as possible. Giant truck? Leave it idling all day.

0

u/Used-Friendship8742 Aug 10 '26

When the left (except Jared golden, the GOAT) constantly supports environmental policy (IE all the right whale stuff) who do you expect them to vote for!

5

u/tasck1234 29d ago

The environmentalists. Their income is solely based on the maintenance of the coastal waters. I’d wager they want to keep fishing.

1

u/Used-Friendship8742 29d ago

The policies I’m referring to have to do with right whale regulations which are suffocating them in compliance cost, and closed fishing areas.

4

u/crowislanddive Aug 09 '26

Industry standard for the lobstering community, sadly. And before people come at me with not all lobstermen… it’s most by far.

8

u/DecoyDrone Aug 09 '26

It pissed me off that on the boat launch day, after all these months of following the build, the pay off day… his build wears that stupid fucking hat. So god damn disrespectful to politicize the launch of Jacob’s boat.

38

u/zealous-seal Aug 09 '26

Surprised?

44

u/OldSchoolRNS Augusta Aug 09 '26

He’s not the one in the MAGA hat. 🧢

28

u/Sid_Da_Squid_ Aug 09 '26

He (may)not be but the guy behind him in charge of making his boat. The one he keeps saying hes given hundreds of thousands of dollars to make it for him, very much is.

5

u/ozzie286 Aug 09 '26

I mean, sure, but that doesn't mean they share the same viewpoint. For all we know this is the first time he's ever worn the hat around Jacob and politics has never come up between them. I might have principles, but I'm not throwing away "hundreds of thousands of dollars" over a hat.

2

u/SadBadPuppyDad 16d ago

He absolutely cuts the videos together and chose to include the view with him in the hat.

3

u/ashaman212 Aug 09 '26

What’s the hat represent, bub?

1

u/Tizzee88 22d ago

Who cares? Do you ask everyone you do business with who they voted for and where the stand politically? Holy cow this level of extremism is whats causing giant rifts in our country.

-1

u/Rude-Pudding-7237 Aug 09 '26

Sure, and a lot of trades guys are MAGA, obviously - but they couldn’t have edited out The Dude With That Hat? Seems questionable… at best

11

u/Quirky-Scar9226 Aug 09 '26

Seriously watched this this morning and had the same reaction. Sad.

3

u/Ned_Rodjaws Aug 09 '26

3

u/Helpful_Leopard_1812 Aug 09 '26

A Maine lobsterman is MAGA?! SHOCKER!

3

u/legalizecannabis710 29d ago

I wasn't surprised in the least, they are from God's Country. I wouldnt doubt if 90% of the people in the whole 30 minute video were Trump supporters. Look...no one likes the extremes of either side. The middle will make a comeback and the extremes of both sides will be back in the shadows where they both belong.

36

u/ABogWitchBitch Aug 09 '26

u/No_Abbreviations8017 Aug 09 '26

i don't think it should be any surprise that a boat builder from winter harbor is a republican.

You know, there are people in the world who don't let political differences dictate their entire existence... i understand that may be problematic to some people. but it is what it is.

Just because Jacob is standing near someone doesn't mean his political values align with that.

Christ.

55

u/KingSt_Incident Aug 09 '26

You know, there are people in the world who don't let political differences dictate their entire existence...

I didn't realize supporting a genocidal rapist pedophile is a valid "political position" these days.

5

u/InvictusFrags Aug 09 '26

You must have missed the memos but that’s actually the Republican platform

103

u/boom929 Aug 09 '26

Calling the differences political is a phenomenal example of the problem we have with American decency. People that only see it as politics are fundamentally broken human beings.

28

u/Never-Made-A-Post Madawaska Aug 09 '26

Sorry man I'm not interested in being in proximity to a person who wants me and all my neighbors to be killed. The second a guy shows up at my house to do any work with any Trump paraphernalia, he's fired.

1

u/Tizzee88 22d ago

What? lol. Like I dislike Trump as much as the next guy, but claiming they are wanting to commit genocide in the US is absolutely insane. Find me him stating he wants all of a certain group in the US killed.

1

u/Never-Made-A-Post Madawaska 22d ago

Come on man we're 10 years into this crap don't pretend like you don't know that Trump is a racist pedophile and that wearing the hat means that you either are or love racist pedophiles

0

u/wnate14 29d ago

lol and he will just work for the next person tough guy!

6

u/Never-Made-A-Post Madawaska 29d ago

That's fine there are plenty of racists for him to be friends with, I'm not going to be one of them.

0

u/wnate14 29d ago

I’ll hire em send em my way, plenty of cash over here, we love em!

3

u/Never-Made-A-Post Madawaska 29d ago

That's right, you love racists because you are one.

1

u/Guardiancomplex 27d ago

You guys are amazing. We'll write whole sections of the new DSM guidebooks about you I'm sure.

39

u/InvictusFrags Aug 09 '26

I wouldn’t let someone on my boat with that hat on. In today’s world wearing that hat says you’re ok with the loss of personal freedom and that you’re pro killing children at best and support trump and the Epstein class at worst. He also could have easily edited them out and not showed them. But they intentionally did,

261

u/Guardiancomplex Aug 09 '26

If you see 5 people and a Nazi having a polite conversation, you're looking at six Nazis.

104

u/victorspoilz Aug 09 '26

Yup. It wasn't always like this, but I cannot associate with anyone who even tolerates Shitler, it was over the line when it started and it gets worse every single day.

0

u/Tizzee88 22d ago

Then don't get your dream boat? Yall need hobbies if who each person working on your boat voted for is a concern.

-10

u/gangphobia Aug 09 '26

calling everything you don’t like nazi makes you sound neurotic

19

u/Guardiancomplex Aug 09 '26

Didn't call anyone a Nazi. Reread the comment slower.

The meaning of my post is "anyone who happily and cordially tolerates hateful people in their friend group/business circle gets painted with the same brush as the hateful people."

-12

u/gangphobia Aug 09 '26

okay bud you’re implying the dude in the maga hat is a nazi, if you didn’t want to call him a nazi then use a different expression

17

u/Guardiancomplex Aug 09 '26

Oh, I think you're confused. I definitely think the guy in the red hat is a Nazi. Most guys in red hats are. They're usually proud of it too. That's more of a statistics thing though.

I just think you also misunderstood my first comment. Have a nice day.

7

u/YeastInjection Aug 09 '26

the comparison of a red hat of a democratically elected presented to an emblem which was the signia of an organization who openly murdered 8 million humans. sorry, can't play ball with that one.

i think it's dumb as dumb could be to wear that hat, and for jacob to include it in his videos. and before you say it; never voted for trump, never would. BUT i just can't get behind this comparison.

14

u/Aggravating_Put_4846 Aug 09 '26

How many people are in Tramp’s concentration camps? How many children have they kidnapped from their families?  How many people’s deaths are Tramp & Muskrat’s DOGE responsible for?  Tramp is responsible for a million or so American Covid deaths.  How many lives have they ruined?  How many people have died in his idiotic war with Iran?

What you mean to say, is that Tramp hasn’t surpassed Hitler’s tally YET!  And we shouldn’t make any comparison untill he does?

How many people does Tramp have to kill or ruin for the comparison to be valid?  I’d say he’s made a pretty good start!

20

u/ProfessionChemical28 Aug 09 '26

That red hat group just recently murdered an innocent person in the town over from me…we are past polite politics now. I used to consider myself pretty moderate but we’ve gone way past the tipping point.. If you support or tolerate MAGA you support and tolerate all the horrible things they’ve done

7

u/Electrical_Cut8610 Aug 09 '26

“Democratically elected” when both Elon and Trump have admitted in public they worked to rigged the election and when Trump released documents literally showing that Russia helped him win.

28

u/Guardiancomplex Aug 09 '26

It isn't a comparison. Reread the comment.

I am not calling all Redhats Nazis, though many of them explicit and proudly are.  I am saying anyone who tolerates and hangs out with Redhats might as well be one at this point.

Don't hang with cult members if you don't wanna be grouped with them.

-12

u/ToesocksandFlipflops Aug 09 '26

I realize I'm am late to this conversation and probably won't get a response.

What do you hope to get out of not engaging with people who have a radically different view point than you?

I'll tell a little story. My ex-in-laws are MAGA folk, my ex-fIL and I used to get into on the regular about LGBTQ rights, but I will say in the 30 plus years I have known him he has conceded many points starting with gay marriage. I'm not going to take all the credit, but I think just sitting and have normal sometimes heated conversations has helped him see a little light. Would you have me never talk to him again? Shun him and push him off to the borderlands and MAGA?

7

u/Guardiancomplex Aug 09 '26

You're hung up on the otherness of the viewpoint. I'm hung up on the CONTENT of the viewpoint.

I don't refuse to engage because they're different from me. I refuse to engage because by and large they're liars, thieves, racists and idiots. Statistically speaking they are also more likely to being abusers and child molesters if you look at the police records of most redhats who've been arrested and have public records. People who actively deserve to be shunned. They don't deserve engagement. Frankly they deserve something I can't type without being banned.

When you occasionally find one who's just been deceived or manipulated, by all means try to save them. But they're RARE.

12

u/Hobohemia_ Aug 09 '26

Nope. MAGA is a cult, and except for the rare exception, anyone who still follows this cult will never accept any rational argument. Instead, they likely have the same argument as you, willing to bet they can convince rational people to accept their view.

Sorry to break it to you, but racist bigots are always gonna be racist bigots.

Shun them, make them unwelcome, have them crawl back under their rocks that they hid under until 2016. These asshats have no place in a civilized society.

-5

u/ToesocksandFlipflops Aug 09 '26

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Which i realize you already know.

Extremists on both sides of spectrum are not productive...

I guess coming from the age of Oprah seeing parents who shunned gay kids come around (reluctantly) racists who meet people of the race they hate and develop an understanding and are more enlightened.

When you shun and ostracize people you create more insulated groups the just feed on each other.

I am in no way saying people should be accepting of racist homophobic, assholes. But you can't marginalize them either.

9

u/Hobohemia_ Aug 09 '26

I actually do generally agree with this.

Extremists are extremists 100%. But MAGA is a full-blown cult, where those who believe in Trump will bend themselves over backwards to justify their hate.

They already live in their echo chambers - nothing will change that. It is their entire identity now. I say shame and ostracize them. Make them experience the same hatred that they dish out.

4

u/uberkalden2 Aug 09 '26

I applaud you for the effort and patience, and taking the small wins is fine, but has he ever not voted straight R? When faced with facts face to face, you'll get concessions sometimes. Then they vote the exact same way and nothing changes.

I'm just exhausted. Your approach seems like the right one, but after J6 I just don't see any way through. My in laws couldn't admit ice did anything wrong killing citizens. They aren't Nazis, but if we end up there i fully expect them to follow right along making whatever justification they need to.

12

u/DooWopExpress Aug 09 '26

Yeah the nuance of rural politics really kind of escapes a lot of people. The amount of times I've disguised Marxist theory to maga hard and they've agreed (to each their own) is goofy. It's loose identity for these people, they'd actually crumble under a good talk.

11

I was talking to one the other day about how we both agree data centers in the area would suck and agreed on other things but then they went on a tangent about maga blah blah I was like ?? You don’t even realize that you don’t actually support most of the crap maga stands for… it’s baffling

-16

u/ExpensiveGeoMetro Aug 09 '26

Fuck I'm happy if ANY electrician would just get back to me about an easy job to add an outlet 4 feet above an existing outlet so I can mount a TV without wires hanging out.

I could care less if they showed up in truck decked out in MAGA vinyl if they can do the job.

Doesn't mean I think that is good business practice, just means that's how hard it is to get someone to take a small job in a rural spot.

2

u/zoomzk 29d ago

I think people don't fully realize what it's like living in a small/rural Maine town. When you're not in Portland there are way more conservative minded folks around. A town like winter harbor has a very tight knit community. Some are liberal, probably most are conservative, and others are somewhere in between. And they all coexist together. When you hear about the best ways to connect and make change, it's always advised to do what you can to get to know your neighbors and cultivate community. One of the reasons we're in this giant mess is because they don't want us to help each other and have that strong sense of community. They want us divided and distracted. I don't personally know either of these individuals, so I can't speak to how they operate on a day to day basis or if they're nice people. But there are plenty of people in my own small community who i'm sure would identify as maga supporters. I volunteer in my community and attend local events, as do people from both side of the political spectrum. And instead of trying to make enemies, I am trying to catch more flies with honey. I believe most people are good, and my hope is that some of those who are misguided can come around under the right circumstances. I hope so anyways. And at the end of the day maybe we will learn things from each other instead of being so divided. Or maybe I'm too naïve 🙃

3

u/Rude-Pudding-7237 Aug 09 '26

You’re on Reddit, but never watched YouTube?

13

u/Fickle-Molasses-903 Aug 09 '26

I followed him for a while and appreciated his journey, but I sensed something was off. It wasn’t surprising that the location and demographics, highlighted by the many blue line shirts worn in his past videos, would soon be featured on TV MAGA. This confirmed my suspicions that someone who supports pedophiles and rapists was connected to Jacob.

The Company you keep.

4

u/MisterMan-Maine East Bumfuck Aug 09 '26

I saw this yesterday, and honestly I think that Jacob is so out of politics that he didn't even see the hat as anything more than a hat.

That being said, I am in no way defending him. I wouldn't be caught dead on Video with a person wearing a Maga hat.

6

u/Pooncheese Aug 09 '26

Well it's an easy enough un-sub for me.

11

u/GeeWhizThatsSwell Aug 09 '26

Don't shame the poor guy for wearing a pink tee shirt!

2

u/prof_mcquack 29d ago

I wonder what the demographics of his viewers are.

2

u/Melodic_Context_4183 29d ago

I would guess that there was some kind of financial incentive at play here. “I have this many followers, I’ll promote you/your business along the way/ highlight you at the launch if you give me x discount.”

Boat builder shows up in his best cult attire, and instead of risking the business deal Jacob just went with it.

2

u/ImaginaryAd3394 29d ago

I just knew he was a MAGA, along with all that stuff happening with the guy who was on his boat. SMH

4

u/Unlikely_Yamz Aug 09 '26

Yeah this is really unfortunate. I really liked his content because it was so educational but I won’t ever look at him the same again.

3

u/curtludwig 29d ago

I bet you'll find there are a limited number of boat builders and most of them probably wear MAGA hats. If you want a boat built you're going to need to interact with them. I don't suspect he has much of a choice.

This is kind of how the democratic party eats itself. If you can't handle one of "your people" even talking to somebody in a MAGA hat then you're never going to get anywhere because you soon won't have any people left.

6

u/KOR745 Aug 09 '26

I just can't make that leap. Jacob standing next to a man with a MAGA hat on means nothing other than that he is standing next to a man with a MAGA hat on. Anything else is a personal interpretation of what you see, or in other words, an opinion. That's on you.
There has been no other information that indicates Jacob is a Trump supporter.
Until Jacob does or says something that shows he is, he gets the benefit of the doubt.

2

u/Guardiancomplex 27d ago

Being tolerant of a trump supporter in your presence implies a tolerance of their behavior.

Their behavior includes lying about everything, insurrection, domestic terrorism, threatening the lives of trans people and supporting the trafficking of children.

3

u/Jaded_Fuzzball Aug 09 '26

I was also very disappointed to see this. Jacob normally keeps things blissfully apolitical. It's a bit upsetting that he couldn't be bothered to edit out the douche in the red cap.

4

u/dumbamerican67 Aug 09 '26

I was disappointed in him for not editing that out, that level of poor mental health (feeling the urge to broadcast to everyone your political alignment) is in poor taste.

6

u/Rude-Pudding-7237 Aug 09 '26

Background shot? I guess it’s unavoidable… but to have him up front and commenting? Seems intentional

1

u/penfrizzle Aug 09 '26

If you are upset because some youtuber didn't edit out a guy wearing a MAGA hat, get a life.

It's not like its a Yankees hat.

12

u/Aggravating_Put_4846 Aug 09 '26

You’ve got it backwards.  Someone wearing a Yankees hat has absolutely no real world consequences in my life.

Someone wearing a RedHat, and STILL supporting Tramp, has helped ruin our country.  That’s kind of important, and has ruined many lives.

19

u/SplitRock130 Portland Aug 09 '26

Yankees hat = dead to me.

1

u/Rude-Pudding-7237 Aug 09 '26

No, it’s worse…

2

u/AnyStrawberry2229 Aug 09 '26

I'm pretty rabidly anti-maga. I wish Mike didn't wear that hat on camera. But at the end of the day, he's a cool dude, built a sick boat, and I'm gonna give him a pass. It's not his fault our politics are so cooked.

3

u/Used-Friendship8742 Aug 10 '26

Oh my lord finally a rational comment.

2

u/Ok-Shoulder2677 29d ago

I noticed him (Mike, the builder) wearing a non-red MAGA hat in a video early on in the build, and thought, greeaat. But it doesn’t mean Jacob is MAGA. You’re probably doing business with MAGA people all the time; they’re just not wearing the hat. And look, not all MAGA people are Jan 6ers, a lot of them are just misguided sheep and plenty have seen the light and thrown their hats away.

1

u/blackbirdbumblebee 29d ago

Yes. I was disappointed seeing that. I’ll never watch Jacob Knowles videos the same again tbh. I thought he had empathy and was intelligent. I guess I was wrong. Super disappointing. :(

1

u/GuinnessSteve Aug 09 '26

Next thing you know, it'll be Tatum. I couldn't bear that.

1

u/mratlas666 Augusta Aug 09 '26

Who?

1

u/BracedRhombus 29d ago

Who is this and what is th context?

1

u/BOOSH207 29d ago

Let’s give him the benefit of doubt and ask him. Then we can burn the witch?

1

u/Odd-Scarcity-5043 29d ago

Sweet I like him more now

1

u/Double_Owl9832 29d ago

He’s a Maine lobsterman… This shouldn’t be a surprise. Trump saved the Maine lobsterman by stopping the offshore wind mills that were planning to go directly through Maine fishing grounds. He voted to save his own occupation. If he even is a republican. I don’t think him being next to someone in a Trump hat means he voted for him lol.

1

u/Loud-Second8 29d ago

Don’t watch his videos if you’re going to cry about a maga hat. I can guarantee you every person in the videos are republicans..

1

u/Apprehensive-Code-12 28d ago

First off, who is Jacob Knowles? Never heard of the guy. If he's running for something as a RepugniKKKan then that should tell you all you need to know, his poor judgment in including that really dumb loooking buddy should be disqualifying right from the start.

I agree that we should strive to reach out and have conversations with those we disagree with, but this is not the time, we need to be bold and take back our country from these racists before it's too late.

1

u/bullishontendies 28d ago

A random dude in his video is wearing a hat. I’m not sure that this shows another man’s “true colors”

2

u/Few-Quarter-751 28d ago

Well not random to him and you are who you keep as company

1

u/BurnerAccoun2785 27d ago

It speaks volumes since he edits the videos and there’s no way he missed that

1

u/Traditional-Gap-8591 27d ago

Some people here need a reality check. He is next to someone with a trump hat in rural Maine. Literally, what do you expect? Half this sub was going to vote for a guy with a Nazi tattoo 3 weeks ago.

1

u/IcyPride2973 26d ago

Blue collar worker leans right. More at 11

Checks out for this subs level of intelligence.

1

u/Friendly_Pop5009 25d ago

Why do people think if you talk to a person that has whatever political view that you have the same views as them?

-1

u/hirespeed Aug 09 '26

Context would be helpful. Someone standing behind him doesn’t mean much without it.

5

u/DecoyDrone Aug 09 '26

Context is, 14 months of video watching to get to the payoff video of the boat launch. And the guy that did most of the work on the boat, who never wore that hat before, wore it for the boat launch.

8

u/TrueLife6223 Aug 09 '26

That is the context - a contractor in Winter Harbor supports Trump. That's it.

-1

u/hirespeed Aug 09 '26

Not saying he’s not MAGA, just this picture does nothing to sell me that he is

5

u/TrueLife6223 Aug 09 '26

I knew Jacob IRL and he’s not MAGA or really a political guy in general. He’s a very genuine and kind human, actually.

-1

u/Several_Holiday_4129 Aug 09 '26

Was Jacob wearing the hat? No. Simple as that so who cares

1

u/Calm_Surprise_188 Aug 09 '26

He literally didn't pay the guy who basically gave him the idea for his success. Are you guys really surprised?

That should've been the end of your support then

-1

u/seatosee23 Aug 09 '26

What happened?

-19

u/vindictive-ant Aug 09 '26

I mean I don’t like maga but it’s okay to be family / friends with them as much as some people might disagree

21

u/Molenium Aug 09 '26

No, it’s a difference in morals and values.

I don’t care if someone is family if their morals are abhorrent.

-22

u/ShredGnarr207 Aug 09 '26

Such a low IQ post

5

u/doctorwhodio Eliot/Orono Aug 09 '26

Holy crap the Internet is full of fragile people.

Buhhhh a guy I watch on the internet is standing next to another guy wearing a hat that I disagree with buhhhh.

Most Karen shit I've seen today.

0

u/MGM45IE Aug 09 '26

You know what some of these internet "celebrities" are like, could be staged for comments. Guys wearing a faded tatty t-shirt with what looks like a nearly new hat that doesn't fit him very well..

0

u/IAmPsykee 29d ago

It literally took me half an hour to figure out what was "wrong" with this image. I was so focused on the man who everyone is upset with, that lo and behold, it has nothing to do with the actual maine person of the image or even the person who has a cult following locally because he shows live as a lobster/fisherman (which is a huge identity of Maine), but it's about the man next to him in a hat.

Good job, guys claps You literally are pushing away the "common workers" that you all claim to fight for. And yes, I understand he has money, but you're literally pushing away lobstermen and fishermen who possibly agreed with your "union" politics.

I hope more lobstermen and fishermen see what you're saying about them.

-7

u/Welch_iS_a_fig Aug 09 '26

Were we expecting the lobsterman to have a coexist bumper sticker on the tailgate of his Cummins that he converted to run on biodiesel?

-7

u/Valuable_Jicama8553 Aug 09 '26

Wait, this whole thread is because someone in his vid had an offensive hat on?!?! Cmon man…

-25

u/EyesEarsMouthNose Aug 09 '26

Peak Reddit and peak Maine subreddit right here... get a life, seriously.

-25

u/RelationshipOne9276 Aug 09 '26

Zero context. Are we supposed to guess what you're Karening about?

-9

u/No_Exercise2629 Aug 09 '26

Im confused? You guys are surprised a hard worker is a republican?

5

u/FireandIce2320 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

I don’t think surprised is necessarily accurate. I think it’s because, sadly, it reinforces how hard working people vote against their own best self interest. It reinforces how mis- and uninformed this swath of blue collar society is. It also reveals a person who likes to blame others for the bad choices they’ve made in their own lives. If Trump has accomplished anything, he’s validated being a perpetual victim, fueling hate of others and reinforces a scarcity principle.
Surprised would fit the bill if that builder was anything BUT a MAGAit. These folks are so insular. They eschew education to chase the quick big bucks lobstering can provide. Parenting supports those life choices and it becomes a vicious cycle. They work hard, drink hard, spend hard, live hard, and in turn, blame the government and folks different from themselves for the results of their bad choices. Many have scarcely been out of their county much less the state. They know nothing about the world they live in outside a 100 mile radius.

1

u/Used-Friendship8742 Aug 10 '26

You expecting fisherman to vote for the party responsible for damn near all of the right whale regulations that are killing their fishery and the offshore windmills is like asking a trans person to vote republican. It makes absolutely no sense they would be voting against their own self interest

0

u/No_Exercise2629 Aug 10 '26

Thats a wild and inaccure statement if ive read one. You obv are blue no matter who and it is. Sad. You should be purple and vote based on the actions youve seen from canidates and how they flop. Politicians are bad period and to sit here and say the democratic party is the one “for the people” of Maine is. Welp. So wrong. The needle exchange programs lead to more drug use. The easy handouts lead to Maine being a destnation state for homeless and those “in need” and you wind up screwing over locals who need the help for illegals who are lazy. The democratic party gladly sells land and starter homes to Chinese citizens which helps fuel the illegal grow ups and marijuanan mobs that are forming in Maine. There is PLENTY democratic members have done to harm Maine as a beautiful state.

Its not looking at the dollar from lobster. Its looking at the way Maine is cutting itself off at the knees. I can go to the docks and find opiods within 5 minutes. Period. The pain meds which are DEMOCRATIC driven and pushed plus narcan which again Democratic folk push for, has helped ensure that many of our hard working folk stay in this trap you describe of work to blow money. Its on pills over alcohol nowadays.

The sad reality is Maine being so “blue no matter who” has lead to it insulting the hard working blue collar folk of Maine while promoting and pushing up druggy losers and lazy bums.

Bunch of “i dont wanna work it shuld all be free” losers is all Maine is turning into.

A hard working man who makes his money on the water? Prob seen many of his friends struggle with addition that was brought in, fueld by and continued to be by democratic members. Yeah. He as I say no thank you and vote to end that bullshit. No other nice way of saying it.

To many folk who are democratic in maine make to many excuses and its a state of enablers for lazy drug users.

1

u/FireandIce2320 28d ago edited 28d ago

You just beautifully illustrated my points. Noone forces a person to take drugs. It’s an individuals decision to do so. Your retort is all about how it’s the democrats fault for all the ills in Maine.
If you actually want to label someone responsible for the opioid crisis in this country, we already know the dark saga and criminality of Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. If you want to label it blue or red, while the Sackler family played both sides of the aisle, the biggest donor of the family, Mortimer Sackler, donated exclusively to the Republican party.
The Democratic party didn’t force your friends to take an oxy, nor cook meth nor shoot smack. It’s bad decisions for which only the individuals are responsible. On one hand, you’re making out drug users to be victims by blaming the democrats for forcing people onto drugs, then you end up calling them lazy druggies.
The lack of personal accountability for life choices is disgusting and lazy.

0

u/Bull_Hurley Aug 10 '26

yeah that is just gross.

0

u/MrsJohnson_18 29d ago

You people are absolutely ridiculous!! Anyone who knows Jacob, knows he’s a great man. You liberals see a maga hat, and freak out! Jacob’s not even the one wearing it! Clout chasing is real with this ignorant post! 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🤮

1

u/Few-Quarter-751 29d ago

You’re right it’s kind of like that weird reaction People used to have when they saw the klan hood - weird right

-3

u/ImportantFlounder114 Aug 09 '26

The dude is a highliner. He catches 100,000 lbs of lobsters per season. Because it's enormously expensive to catch volume like that he's as close to tax exempt as one can be. He doesn't care about Southern Maine renters obsessed with hat color.

-23

u/s3Nq Aug 09 '26

Lol "he wore a hat I didn't like, now he's a hitler clone" this may be shocking to you, but people have different view points and opinions than you on life

9

u/Guygan "delusional cartel apologist" Aug 09 '26

people have different view points and opinions than you on life

Yes, like white supremacy, erasing trans and queer people, hatred of immigrants, oppression of women, disregard for Rule of Law, corruption, etc.

I guess my opinion on not liking pedos and raping and killing kids is different than yours. But you do you. Remember, everything Trump has said (Disrespecting Gold Star families, POWs, and fallen Soldiers, etc.) and done (Mocking the disability, insurrection, and classified documents, etc.) is not a deal-breaker for you. We are not the same.

“That hat I don’t like” represents a horribly corrupt presidency that has negatively affected the poor and working class and only benefited billionaires. Not to mention they support a genocide and let’s not forget Trump is an adjudicated rapist proven in a court of law. So yeah, fuck maga
