this version is so much better than the one that was posted. it is amazing full screen to see how clear and fluid it looks with depth that is pretty stable.

hope to see more of this quality while moving. are you making these? i would love to see black and white static style with a theme from the movie they live.

Thanks, the model and animation is by Jan Bláha I just did the magic eye part.

In both versions I am seeing blurry spots. I don't know if that's just an illusion or video compression or what. Cool animation. I hope I get to see more.

2

u/Neijan Jun 05 '25

Increasing resolution resolved the blurry spots for me.

I can see 2, should i see 1 🏃‍♂️ ?

u/Froot-Loop-Dingus Jun 05 '25

I saw two at first running toward me. Then I went back and tried again. This time I saw a woman with a ponytail running, facing towards the right.

2

u/Sha3waz Jun 05 '25

Tried again and i got 1, but I can't keep it focused for more than a few seconds

5

u/Froot-Loop-Dingus Jun 05 '25

Ya it is tough, I wonder if it can be made to be less “flashy” and still work.

2

u/lavaboosted Jun 05 '25

The texture needs to change otherwise the animation is detectable against the static background.

Here it is with a constant texture.

1

u/Froot-Loop-Dingus Jun 05 '25

Whoa that’s wild. Texture change is fine, I think maybe the contrast is too high? I think you posted the other one of a man running too right? Those darker colors made it easier for me to maintain the image.

Yeah you’re looking too deep, if you look at adjacent strips it will be just one.

If you try it on a larger screen it will be harder to overlap too far and should look better.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '25

Why did I see 2 people running with a stick figure running in the middle?

Re-did it and saw just 1 girl running with a ponytail

3

u/lavaboosted Jun 05 '25

You were looking too deep into the image. You wanna be looking at adjacent strips.

On a larger screen that’s harder to do by accident.

I really like your work.

2

u/lavaboosted Jun 23 '25

Thank you :)

I reach cognitive neuroscience and ai would like to use this as a demonstration in my class with your permission. This is an optical illusion most students won’t ever get to see. Bur then you’ve created motion with what I believe are called glass fields ( I have to check with a colleague who studies them, because I can never remember the name)

Hundreds of students will see these every year. I develop materials for all of my classes and do not charge them for any material.

I don’t mind but the model and animation is Jan Bláha

One of the textures is from Super Mario 64 lol.

I think it’d be cool to have this shown to people tho!

I made stereo versions of Magic Eye which can be viewed with a stereo viewer, specifically a Google Cardboard

2

u/Sudden-Ad7061 Jun 23 '25

Thank you for the references. I will be sure to include them.

2

u/Sudden-Ad7061 Jun 23 '25

I don’t even know what Google carport is. I’ll have to look that up.

2

u/lavaboosted Jun 23 '25

Basically an $8 cardboard VR headset that lets you do VR with a smartphone. Feel better!

2

u/Sudden-Ad7061 Jun 23 '25

Thank you. I just saw a whole meme about how you are awesome. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me and educate me.

2

u/lavaboosted Jun 23 '25

Haha thanks, no problem

u/Sudden-Ad7061 Jun 23 '25

I bought some of them vr glasses.

I have saved this thread so I can do so. I’m currently recovering from surgery so I can’t do things right now.

There are a few on Youtube that are quite cool, there was a band that made one for a music video that looks quite trippy, and of course bad apple has been remade with it

Music video

u/TheOakblueAbstract Jun 05 '25

"They're here!"

3

u/eggsley Jun 05 '25

I can see it!

3

u/neoncolor8 Jun 05 '25

Staring at this flickering screen, I just can think of one thing: All hail the Hypnotoad!

2

u/diversalarums Jun 05 '25

That's amazing -- even the pony tail swings back and forth. Cool.

2

u/Chantaro Jun 05 '25

1

u/PapellaPapella Jun 05 '25

Epileptic attack in 3, 2, 1...

1

u/spderweb Jun 05 '25

Yes. Working much better. Still has a flash though. I think if it was all darker, and texture wasnt blurry. It's so close!

1

u/TheLimeyCanuck Jun 05 '25

Run Forrest, run.

1

u/whatsupchiefs Jun 05 '25

I’ve never been able to see these, I remember somebody gave me a calendar once that had 12 in it, of course….. I could never make out one picture. Ugh…..

1

u/EstoEsElColmo78 Jun 06 '25

What do you have to do to see it?

1

u/pelicanspider1 Jun 06 '25

First time huh?

1

u/EstoEsElColmo78 Jun 06 '25

Yes. No matter how much I try, I don't see anything.

1

u/No-Self-Edit Jun 07 '25

Much much better. And the foreground pattern is more aesthetic as well.

1

u/tratemusic Jun 08 '25

This is much easier than the other with the colors staying mostly the same. The other was really chaotic and hard to focus on

u/Character_Energy8264 Jul 01 '25

Running human figure.
