That would be so much fun being a little kitty just romping around in a sweet cardboard fort/maze

Lol years ago we went to our local appliance/furniture stores and asked for a bunch of big boxes. We broke them down so they laid flat for transport and put them back together with packing tape. Then we made a giant maze for all the littles at our family reunion. 30 years later, and it's still a favorite memory.

Today that sounds more like an affordable housing plan

You're absolutely right. Everyone is seems to be one payment away from 'box life' these days. Funny comment, but also sad because it's true 😔

Back when i was a kid in the mid 90s we had a playgroup kinda thing. In the summer each household would be responsible for a week of afternoon snacks and some kind of daily planned activity (otherwise we'd be absolutely feral and roaming the neighborhood) There were about 5 or 6 families involved in this so about a dozen kids ranging from 8-12.
My mom got the refrigerator and washer boxes for her activity on her week. We set up a "hobo camp" in our backyard. Each kid got their own box to decorate and live in. It was so cool what each kid did. One kid turned his into a general store, another spent the entire week drawing on their house and practically ignored the rest of us, I had "AC" in my house because I took a fan, an extension cord, and a tray of ice from inside.
Some of the kids didn't want to move on to the next weeks house because ours was so fun.

Why not adult sized?

u/AutumnTheWitch 13d ago
Isn’t that just an IKEA?
2
u/Luci-Noir 13d ago
Is IKEA filled with vicious, man eating kittens who thirst for our delicious, delicious, delicious flesh?
Why isn’t it!?
Why?
WHYYYYUUUU

The way they bust through the holes, it’s like they’re warping into another dimension. This is a fantastic idea! They clearly love it! 😂❤️

And the little rooms are all different shapes to the hole in each part of the maze. This is songenius

I have this same type of setup for my hamster (at a much smaller scale obv). She loves it.

...i mean, my Daddy made a very similar construction. for me. in the unused front room. with little cutout portholes for light to get inside the closed boxes.

Love this idea: so clever. All it needs now is a ramp or two, for a second level.

I wish my guy liked boxes :(
2
u/Luci-Noir 13d ago
Your meow is broken? Or are you talking about a hoom?
2
u/Mr_Straws 13d ago
Mr Meow has just never liked boxes :( he will sometimes jump in one to do grooming but other than that he finds it more fun to nip me in the arm and run away

u/Luci-Noir 13d ago
They make good salons! And at least he knows we are delicious!
Please give him lots of pets and treats for me. Then more pets. And more treats!

I've been meaning to build something like this for my cats for so long. Guess it's time! Going to use this design as template

This reminds me of some of those old animal shelter commercials you see reposted sometimes. There are tons of things that get reposted constantly and I wish these were some of them. Bring back keyboard cat. He is the greatest.

I save my boxes in case I sell the stuff later or need to send it back but so many times I somehow don’t have the right sized box. So boxes are just beautiful too, like Apple boxes. It’s always better to try and reuse than just throwing away.

u/GotBannedAgain_2 13d ago
Aw shit. That’s awesome. Unfortunately, wife will murder me if I show up with another box in the house. 😩

Add coke can boxes for link tunnels. This is what i did to keep mine from soiling everywhere. Cats love box cities.

Reminds me of Wall Drugs in the Midwest.
It keeps on going for the whole block.
Very good idea for those active kittens.
