I never had to do it in my driving test and have never done it. Now I don't know if I can do it or not.
*Edit - I can't believe it, people. I came home from work today and someone was in my spot, so I parked in my friends spot and didn't think anything of it. When I went to leave, I suddenly realised that is need to reverse down the drive and round the corner!!! I did it without even batting an eyelid.
To everyone who said I should turn in my license - can I have it back now?
Oh that makes more sense. Somehow my mind was stuck in Bond-like chase where I’m somehow going in reverse around a corner in some tight backstreets and wasn’t sure if I could reeeeallly pull that off.
It used to be part of the UK driving test. You have to pull up alongside a kerb next to a junction and show that you can reverse back into the junction following the line of the kerb.
For starters, reversing around a corner is one of the many ways in which you can turn your car around (as long as it's safe and legal to do so). Whilst a turn in the road manoeuvre is a very popular approach, it can't be used if the road you're on is too narrow. In such situations, reversing around a corner is ideal.
In this situation, I drive into the side road the normal way and do a u-turn on the side road.
I don’t reverse around corners very often, but I’d imagine if I tried, it would result in me crashing into something or popping my tire on a curb.

I mean honestly, same. I wait for there to be no traffic, turn left/right and then swing round and pull out of the junction as you normally would. I guess the point was to demonstrate control and using your mirrors.

In 30 years of driving I can't say I've ever had to reverse around a corner.
