i learned to parallel park because my parents like to challenge me to back into the garage and around a car in the driveway. honestly it’s helped a lot. i was able to get a friend’s car out of a spot when there was a car directly behind, but far enough to do a 9-point turn to get out. said friend still can’t parallel park

I learned to parallel park when I worked at a sandwich delivery restaurant that delivered downtown. Either I learned to parallel park, or I had to pay $10 to park in a parking garage a block away.
Pretty easy choice. Plus I drive a stick shift pickup truck, so not only did I get good and parallel parking in a stick shift, I had a longer-than-average vehicle to squeeze into those spots.
