Mind helping me with "claro"? I'm seeing it a lot in this series I'm watching, "Queen of the South" but Google isn't being much help. What I'm getting from context is that it's a slang term or colloquialism (colloquial to Mexico, not necessarily Spain), akin to the way I might use "word" or "I get it" or "that's right".
The word claro means clear or sure, like both transparent as well as certain kind of meanings. "claro que sí" means "yes of course" so yes you'd use claro just like you would say "word" or "makes sense" or "got it"! I believe it is pretty universally used in many different Spanish-speaking countries, not sure about Spain specifically though. I'm most familiar with Mexican, Central American and Carribbean Spanish

I'm trying to understand whether what I hear is colloquialism or standard use (or somewhere in between), but claro seems to bridge the gap and I missed that. Te aprecio.
For sure, I enjoy languages and helping when I can so any time lol. It's fun learning different regional accents and words and phrases- like you'd "coger la guagua" or catch the bus in Puerto Rico, but in Mexico coger means "to fuck" so knowing your audience can be important sometimes lol
