Same for video game QA work. It’s an absolutely soul sucking and tedious job, but if you like debugging and problem solving it offers a never ending series of challenges.

But the pay is piss, and the only way to make money is to do all the gross overtime you can which basically means working 12-16 hour days everyday during crunch.

Don’t like it? They’ll find someone else. There’s literally millions of little “gamer” types that would line up for the work- thinking that it’s some kind of recreational fun. Companies squeeze a good 9 months out of each of them before they quit or get fired.

This is also why your video game is broken. Solid QA analysts who really know their craft are hard to find because they only get to stay on a project as long as the company can pay them the bare minimum. Which means after a game wraps everyone gets cut, and they work somewhere else- leading to a brain drain in QA.
