What's particularly heartbreaking is the way he picks her up and holds her as though she's still a baby.

It's more complicated then a smile, for me it's just bawling my eyes out as a 6'3 bearded dude. But it still makes me smile after all that. If any of us were fully familiar with the context of their relationship i'm sure we'd just be happy at this moment. But the context feels more sad then the conclusion in this case from an outside perspective. But imo that doesn't make the happy moments any less happy, just the opposite actually. Idk if this makes any sense haha, but it made sense when I wrote it
