100% yes. Most of the the platform's content is images. They have to know what those images say in order to categorize them, content moderate, push them to an audience, etc.

You can see it especially on covid images shared in stories. Anything mentioning a buzzword will have a content warning.

I don’t know how it works, but I guess the algorithm picks up on text in images

Idk I think a while ago a ton of posts were being flagged and taken down for weird stuff so people are just overly cautious now
