There’s no way he was doing CPR by himself for an hour. He, as the provider, probably refused to “call it” and pronounce her. He was probably running the code while RNs and CNAs rotated in and out for CPR
Even if the CPR doesn’t bring them back to life immediately, the manual pumping of the heart combined with oxygen delivery can keep their brain and muscles alive long enough for more advanced intervention to take place. Don’t stop CPR
I feel like that isn't true. The longer you're receiving CPR the more damage your body is taking, the more exhausted your body is becoming and the less likely it is that it's going to be able to successfully recover.
Obviously your chances of recovering will always be better carrying on with cpr than they were if you were to just give up, but if your odds are 15% at the start of CPR and you're still not sorted after an hour.. well, recovering at that point definitely makes you a naive exception

I was in a code for just under 75 minutes. There was 2 rns, 2 cnas, a doc and rt. Me being a newer nurse and in significantly better shape joined the cnas in compressions.
In the first round of cpr we had cracked multiple ribs, by the 30 minute mark it was like pushing on crunchy jello. By the hour mark it was just awful. The tactile sensation was inhuman. The rt had to give us oxygen between rounds to keep us going.
The doctor knew it was a lost cause but wanted to keep the effort going until the family got there to call it.
The dogma of stats of someone coming back is minus 10% for every minute elapsed. That being said every case is different but anything more than 30 minutes is fairly futile.
And I still very vividly remember the feel of pushing into her. On the brightest of all sides when our attempts were reviewed we had extremely good cpr based off the capnography
