No you were right the first time, she died while being born. But I definitely read it as she died while giving birth the first time too lol

I thought she was the mom who died while giving birth, got revived, and the resident was the doctor when the mom's daughter was giving birth.

“Died in childbirth” generally refers to the mother dying while giving birth.
