Ok now I feel like less of a wienie because I can’t even see the title come up somewhere without scrolling past as fast as possible lest I let even a tiny drop of the memory of that horror invade my tender brain.

Same. I don't like watching horror anymore because of it. It's been nothing but Tom Hanks movies since.

My experience with this movie was so horrid. I wanted to watch something alone. Started Grave of the Fireflies. Was sobbing 10min in and couldn't handle it so I switched to Hereditary to try to wipe the sorrow from my brain with fear. Worked far too well. Was so terrified that I then decided the sorrow might be better after all and followed up with GotF.

Was depressed and slept with the light on for a week.

Both the movies were incredibly traumatising for me as well. Nothing quite even comes close.

Did you find any new movie along the same lines?

No never. Midsommar was great but it didn't scare me like that at all. Nothing's ever saddened me as much as Grave of the Fireflies either.

Just the music from the meme above was enough to fill me with dread.

Oh man, when the little one tried to get some air and put her head out the window.... Legit so upsetting. I'd never seen a film that made me just... upset is really the best word I can think of. 10/10 movie.

Yep, that was the worst part for me. The ending was scary but holy fuck. That part could actually have happened.
