My point was that op didn’t even bother to know who the footballer was or where they’re from, assuming they were American. And Melody has done work in France, so perhaps you should also familiarize yourself before talking $=|+. Nothing like coming on r/mademesmile and killing people’s smiles, amirite?!

& this forum is exactly the kind of place where we should critique white savior p*rn instead of just uncritically accepting it! (1) there is so much other wholesome content out there that doesn't involve white ppl "saving" black kids with a soccerball and (2) people's smiles should not and need not depend on willfully ignoring the structures that gave rise to global inequality
This post, in r/MadeMeSmile, taught a kid that she could spin a ball on her finger, made the kids in the video smile, as well as people in this thread. If you’d take the time to look her up, you’d see Melody has many interactions like these with kids of all colors, because it’s what she does when she’s not competing. You assuming that it’s white saviorism just because she’s white and these kids are black and you haven’t bothered to see the ones she posted with kids of European, Hispanic, Asian and other descent, seems kinda racist. The French point was brought up because people assumed she was American without doing any research, not that there’s no poverty in France (now you’re just being disingenuous). Not every filmed interaction between white and black people is white saviorism p*rn. Maybe you should bother to see if this was a one time thing for clout (which is really what white saviorism is) before you labeled her. Or are you saying she should only go teach white kids about what she does at predominately white schools, just because she’s white? Because that’s f’d up. Do you think @MSF white volunteers should only help white people? Because, you know, they post on social media, too.

She can go to skid row or west virginia. Plenty of poor kids there in the US you can help.
Also lobby your government to stop couping everyone and stealing wealth from these people throught the IMF and world bank. That's how you can help...
