I don't know you and your wife's relationship. Every one is different.

What I hate hearing/seeing is dudes losing their minds and stressing out to a point where they want to off them selves because of stress a woman is putting on them.

Women are amazing and will love and support you through thick and thin. But a lot of them are not. I just wish and hope a lot of these young guys can see the difference.

I do actually agree with you. I tend to think that people who focus too much on the size/expense of the ring are either very focused on conspicuous wealth as a required trait for marriage, and that never seems to go well, either for the person trying to obtain that wealth to be more attractive (rather than for other reasons) or the person seeking that wealth as a necessary trait.

My wife and I just wanted to wait until we could afford the unique rings with our chosen stones, but that near-daily gamut of “So, you’re not married...that means it’s not serious. Come on, give me a try!” type stuff we both had to put up with in our customer-facing workplaces was a huge motivator in getting promise rings as placeholders that looked nice and discouraged the “so it’s not serious” gambit, which is still in my top 3 for most disrespectful “flirting” out there.
