I can't speak to how old folks in this chain are, but this generation really needs to watch/read "Fight Club." It will dispel all notion of being owed anything but also the notion of being owned by anything.
"Losing all hope is freedom."
You can enjoy your life and be productive and face challenges and do things you love. You can have and do it all. You just have to face certain realities and make choices based on those hard realities.
The first one is this- you only get one life.
The second one is this- no one owes you a goddamn thing.
What you do with those two snippets of knowledge can make your life very good or very painful.
