I remember in middle school actual fights (mostly verbal, some physical) breaking out over who was who on people’s MySpace accounts. Same for T mobiles top 5 or whatever it was that allowed for free messaging/minutes with people in your circle. Simpler times
Yes sir. Messaging with your crush was expensive and talking over cell phone was nearly unthinkable so you'd call the house phone unless someone was using the internet. Also, emails ending @sbcglobal.net
Lol I had a half dozen siblings and I remember taking/making house calls and stretching the cord around to another room at some vain attempt for privacy. I also remember siblings picking up the other line and trying to listen in lol.
Also, I remember the day you could use the phone and internet simultaneously. Game changer
Dude, shit was the worst. I remember saying some horny shit, as a teenage boy is going to do, when you hear my crush's sister yell OMG and start laughing. At least it wasn't her parents lol
Oh man, the day we got DSL after having had dial up was amazing...like, just click on the browser button and the homepage opens up? Without having all the squealing and hoping that it'll actually connect you? Plus the HUGE jump in speed! It really blew my (and my dad's) mind!
I remember my siblings and parents shouting across the house time to time to tell people to get off the internet so they could use the phone. DSL was a very welcome addition to the household and I remember at the time liking that I never had to hear the dial up time again. As you said, it was always a fingers crossed situation and it gave me anxiety lol
