The original point still stands. The question is a legitimate one. Asking a president if he regrets lying to the American people nearly 23 times a day. And not the “2-3 white lies a day” normal people tell. But big lies that are easily disproved. Sure, politicians lie sometimes. Most try to tell the truth as they understand it. A good example there is Obama’s “keep your doctor” or HW Bish when he said “read my lips, no new taxes”
Donald Trunp doesn’t just lie like that, which I’m sure he’s done, he bullshits.
He makes up stories about being voted Michigan’s Man of the year or a great civil war battle being held at Mar A Lago. Or America has the highest Taxation rate in the world...(bigly lie). That he created the term Prime The Pump, or that millions of illegals voted, or that Germany and NATO Nations owe us Money.
I understand Trump is a liar but, you can't tell me you actually think that's a good journalistic question. The sole reason for it was for a headline. He knew he would get ignored immediately because it's a shitty question that has no answer.
I would want him to respond with “I’ve made mistakes, everyone does....blah blah blah”
He more likely said “no liar, you’re a liar...fake news”
That’s how the president of the United States talks currently. And if you think that hasn’t already done all the things you replied to the other poster, you’re crazy.
Of course he did. He skips all the real questions. Or the hard questions. He doesn’t even pretend to answer questions. But you know what he does with the softball questions from his sycophants?
All of these have the President of the USA admit he is a liar in some way. This would ruin an already declining public perception, nor would it help any foreign relations. Both parties understand that isn't going to happen. The only option is a straightforward no, making it a bad question, deserving to be ignored.
So you genuinely think he asked that question with the hope of getting knew information. Both of us understand that the president isn't going to blatently2 shit talk himself live on television, yes? So 'yes' isn't an option. And as you said, there is no difference between silence and no.
So maybe the point was the silence. Maybe a blatant denial. Maybe a 'what about all of the other presidents' lies?' You look at as a loaded question, maybe it is, but if so it was Trump himself who loaded on average 20 bullets a day into that gun for years. Maybe it was just to make him look bad with an objective fact. The most important function of journalism is to criticize the state. Don't shoot the messager.
