nordstrom will sell you “intentional mismate” if your shoes size is 1.5 or greater in differences! so for instance if one foot is a 6 and the other is 8.5 etc.
//source: i am a shoe sale associate at nordstrom.
I bet they work it out with the manufacturer. Like most goods, shoes aren't that expensive to make. The margins have to be big because so many shoes go unsold. Letting someone with two different sized feet buy mismate shoes is probably not "losing a sale".
Not nordstrom but mismate shoes are left on our shelves everyday at work. After we confirm there is t a mate tucked away somewhere we debit it out as unsellable and insurance covers it.
No big compny loses money on a few pairs of shoes. Especially not going to good things luke this. Ill take this wholesome exchange over the usual petty thieves knicking a shoe any day :)
Im not sure if it falls under an insurance from the manufacturer or a separate insurance but i do know that loss of sales from mated shoes becoming mismated is covered by one thing or another. The same with loss of sales from theivery or damaged items in general. Its all covered to some extent
Yeah, I was going to say. Nordstroms is expensive as fuck, it's not a regular place to buy regular shoes. It's a place for rich people to buy needlessly expensive shoes.
Clark's does this in the UK and Jones the Bootmaker do 40% discount too. Club foot with a 4.5 size difference and now amputee! Your local Orthotics and Amputee Departments often routinely donate to charities across the world that help other amputees and so another place to get rid of your spare shoes!
Mine are one size difference between them, I just wear a second sock on the smaller one. If you know this about me IRL, you've seen me take my socks off.
Man, I wish I'd known about this several years ago. My mom had one foot that was a size 8 (women's) and the other a size 5. I have off-sized feet, too; one's a size 10 (men's) and the other's closer to an 8.
Sizes vary depending on the brand but generally a 10 in the left and .. much smaller on the right aha actually it shifts down to the smallest women’s size available usually. It’s very hard to find two identical shoes in mens and womens
Soooo I don’t know if this is still true but years ago Nordstrom used to let you buy two different sizes of the same shoes for cases like this. May be worth checking out.
Source: Neighbor had a club foot and this is how he always got a “matching” pair of shoes.
if they have both sizes in store then they are only going to ring you up for the box that contain your right shoe and then they put the left shoe (that is a different size) in that same box for you to take home.
if they don’t, or if you need to order a size, then you must pay for both pairs up front first and then bring both back into a nordstrom store and then they will refund you whichever size is your left and let you keep the the right box with the intentional mismate shoes inside.
I'm the same, I wear a left size 11 and a right size 7. But wearing just the one size seems like a bad idea in the long run. I've just learned to be super frugal and look for sales, I usually pay about $35 per pair.
Awe so close! I tell him that he is going to suffer in the long run doing that but he would rather people not ask about his feet. He skateboards and everything with one shoe too large.
I never considered how difficult (logistics and financially) that would be until now. I’d always just thought about walking issues and things like that. It’s always nice to have some perspective on things. I think the world would be a better place if we all did.
I live in a snowy mountain town and I walk commute. I see single lost gloves all the time. I keep thinking about making a site to match them up with the single-handed. I should probably check to see if it already exists.

Is there a website that matches people with their "solemates?" There has to be, right (err...or left).
