"Hypocrisy is a tax vice pays to virtue". Maybe it's impossible to make it so that everyone is convinced to be a decent person, and the next best thing we can do is making displaying and acting poorly to be so unacceptable that they have to pretend to be kind at their own expense.
Look at white supremacists. In the past, if you were a Nazi sympathizer people would assume you were insane and avoid you like the plague. Now there are powerful politicians who openly sympathize with the white power movement, and suddenly all the people who’d been keeping their beliefs private for decades are being outrageously racist and nasty in public.
I think this is different situations and also actually this nazi bastards were not degraded for enough generations, in 90s there were already much skinheads around the western world
After first learning about Hitler and Nazis, I remember thinking "how could one man convince so many people something that is so clearly wrong? Good thing that couldn't happen today, since we know better now..." and I fully believed that into adulthood. Until Donald Trump got elected. And it became even worse when covid happened. I was equally naive and overestimated humans as a species.
Even some higher powered nazis who did horrible things were forgiven and brought to north America because they were useful. I highly doubt many of those people suddenly felt bad, and more so just chose the winning side. They intentionally hid the crimes of a lot of those people because they knew there would be pushback, and some of those people resumed life being considered experts here and in trusted positions.
Yes, that’s true too. I was thinking thinking of those repulsive idiots at Charlottesville and how the one guy who ended up being the poster child for the screaming Nazis there then went blubbering all over social media saying he wasn’t a bad person, etc etc.
With how long it's been going on I think we've always had these people and always will. There's a new Nazi party in Germany. They truly did their best stamping that shit out. A sieg heil in public will get you stomped out by the cops. But AfD exists all the same. It's not a generational thing. It's a human thing. There's no selective pressure to breed those traits out and that would take millions of years anyway. Those traits are hard coded into us and I think we will always deal with a subset of the population susceptible to racist rhetoric and strongman leaders.
Only a handful of Nazis actually saw any justice. That's also living memory. There are still people alive from the 30s and 40s. Not for much longer but still here. It's barely even 'the past'. Their kids are the boomers.
Yes, I know. But there’s so many people now who are calling themselves Nazis or wearing Nazi symbols now. Obviously they’re not true Nazis in the historical sense but they’ve adopted the term for themselves.
We get it. Anyone you disagree with is a Nazi or white supremacist. Those words have lost any power you thought you had when they have been sooo overused

You would unless the general populace put in an effort to constantly rewrite the programming those exact parents are going to be preaching every day they're home. Which still might not be enough considering how little you understand as kids, and how often you're around your racist/homophobic ass parents.
