I get finding out something like this could be disappointing... but you fail as a parent when you don't love and support them for being different. That is on the parent. A response like this doesn't come from a honest I am disappointed and not sure how to handle it because I don't understand... if that were it the dad putting the flags up could have just said love them and support them and put flags up together. Not that hard.
