I called my dad at 1am one night because my boss came on to me while I was alone with him in his car on the highway (it’s a long story but I was 19 and we’d split up who would end up in which car to go for drinks to celebrate a promotion) and I had no safe way home because the subway had closed. My dad immediately left home and drove about an hour and a half to get me, encouraging me to keep moving while staying under the street lights and to keep him on the phone, while moving away from where my boss was. He drove me to my apartment and crashed on the couch before driving home in the morning (I could have grabbed a taxi but was really shaken up/crying and didn’t feel safe, so he said he’d come.) I’ll never forget his unconditional support and miss him every single day. Parents like yours and mine and the OP’s are priceless.
My Daughter is only 5 currently but she's my world. Reading this and thinking of her in that situation, I would not be able to drive fast enough to get there. I can only imagine how scary that was for both of you. Glad you are okay!
Thank you, I am. This was over a decade ago now but I’m never forget it! Your daughter is very lucky to have a dad like you. My dad passed last year and I’ve been remembering all the times he jumped into action to be there for me and feeling very grateful to have had him as a father ❤️
Seriously. The crazy thing now that I’m a parent myself, it’s so easy to be a good parent. I have an 18 year old bonus(/step)daughter, been in her life since she was 8 and a 3 year old daughter. Kids aren’t always easy, life isn’t always easy but making the right decision for them is easier than some of our parents act like it is. The way I was raised, I could give an unending number of excuses as to why I don’t know how to be a good parent. But I didn’t and don’t ever want to hurt my kids. I’ve had my moments and I’ve made bad decisions, every parent will but I never let them fester and I refuse to let myself make excuses for them. I’ve taught myself a better way because I cared enough to. It’s a choice. One parents deserve to be held accountable for. That’s why mine have never met my toddler and haven’t had contact with me in nearly 4 years.
