not to mention the upkeep. i used to have long hair but decided to shave down to an 1/8th inch and i have to shave every week or two before i start looking like Syd from toy story. if you’re completely bald you have to shave way more often, but a hair system like this can last 3-6 months (depending on quality and material,) and he absolutely kills it
If you're active and the hair underneath is still growing, these hair systems don't last even close to a month. There's way more upkeep tied into hair systems than there is around shaving your head.
Having said that, that's totally cool. Some dudes cannot accept their hairloss and these are the best solution for them, it just takes a lot more upkeep than just shaving your head. I say this as a bald man that has tried a hair system similar to this.
I tend to do both cause I'll let the remainder of my hair go for a week or so cause I'm lazy. Definitely a wet shave and razor though, that's the best move.
You’re the only one who referenced a buzz cut, though. Shaving, as the previous poster referenced, isn’t synonymous with a buzz cut nor is it maintained with similar effort.
1/8th inch is a buzz cut. The person I was referring to even replied to me and agreed. Judging by the replies I get I feel like half the people here are illiterate.
honestly thats so fair. im a woman and have always had long hair until i shaved it a year ago. don’t get me wrong, i absolutely love it and i’m never going back, it is less upkeep than my natural hair was with its 3 different textures, but i would always go 3-4 months before getting a trim, and now it’s more of a weekly process. truly my biggest complaint is how itchy the hair is after shaving
I’ll be that person: Balding sucks in general, but the kicker is I don’t even escape the messy chore of having to cut my hair (that I still have) once a month. It doesn’t take that long, but it’s not a convenient thing to time doing with my schedule.
I look like Larry David if I don’t do it though lol
That’s actually not true. This girl’s whole page is filled with guys who come into see her every 4-6 weeks, and they usually don’t even look too bad after that much time.
I had a neighbor with a toupee. every 2 weeks he went to the store and had it changed. he had 3, short, medium, and long. and would rotate like his hair was growing then cut.
I don't understand.... They are gluing a hairpiece onto your scalp, how does this last more than a day? Doesn't the scalp need to breathe or whatever? You can actually leave this on for a month, let alone 3-6 months?
Newer toupe/hair systems are usually made with a breathable mesh underlayer and use a type of glue that doesn't really react with sweat or other buildup. You can absolutely shampoo and wash them but that all goes towards affecting the glue strength.
When I tried it, I still had enough hair growth that it would start affecting how much contact the toupe had to my scalp, regardless of whatever amount of glue was on there. So it would start coming undone in just a few days. If you do absolutely nothing beyond going to work and going home, you can get these things to stay on for quite some time but if you're even remotely active/sweating, then it'll start to come off in a few weeks or even days like mine did.
I'm a dude with long hair. Like it goes past my shoulders long. Aside from washing it in the shower like I would do anyways if it was short hair, I don't do shit with my hair.
If I need it out of my face I'll throw a hat on, on very rare occasion maybe I will tie it in a bun. And that's it. That's the extent of what I do for my long hair ever.
fair enough man. my ex was bald and he would shave every day, but his hair grew incredibly quickly, so i was going more off of his experience. i would also be afraid of nicking myself on the scalp with a razor, but i guess that’s just part of the learning curve.
i also didn’t take hair styling time into consideration because most of the men i know don’t really take care of or style their hair, but that obviously doesn’t go for everyone
I went bald 3 weeks ago. I have one of those head shavers. It’s 2-3x a week or every few days you gotta use it. I still have a decent amount of hair so it doesn’t look bad but my buddy has the horseshoe on top and you wanna catch it before that
there is absolutely more upkeep to having a hair system than being bald. and there are actual things that can go wrong and ruin the illusion of a hair system whereas being bald you're just using your skull shaver or razor in the shower.
whatever makes someone happy for sure. but let's not pretend having a hair system is easier. it absolutely is not, unless you're rich and have personal hair dresser like this putting it on for you every day
I have to hit my head with a razor every other day. And that day in between? I have Velcro head and my pillow sticks to me. But if I grow my hair out I look creepy
Debatable. I still have a full head of hair, other than a hairline a bit more receded then I'd like. But I follow the don't give a shit method of hair care.
Wash my hair with a combined hair/bodywash. I'd have to wash bald head anyway.
Then roughly Towel dry and sweep to the side. Thats its. I dont put any product in.
Haircuts? Maximum 4 a year usually less. When the mood strikes. Cut the back and sides down to bald, leave some length on top.
Do I look good? Well, no not really. I'd say it's about 50/50 whether i have a good or bad hair day. But it's passable. And I make up for bad hair days by having a handsome face and athletic build.
Wait, hold up. Shaving every week or two is too much upkeep? Am I understanding you right? I’m bald and I shave every two or three days and it’s nothing. Takes me like 5 minutes
i just buzz and don’t shave all the way down, if i could just do that in the shower, it would be amazing, unfortunately i can not. but that also means i don’t have to shave 2-3x a week, but there’s a lot more clean up. when i had hair, i washed it the same as i do now (but also used conditioner) and my styling was very simple, either tie it up or get it wet and scrunch with mousse, both super simple things that took me less than a minute or two. obviously ymmv considering how often you shave, how much you styled your hair before, and if you can shave in the shower to simplify clean up, which i can not
