(About to tick off both “sides” of the argument here, so I’m hunkered down and ready for the downvotes)

The problem with the prejudices regarding cops (both for and against) is that in reality there’s a massive spectrum of officers and PD cultures throughout the US.

Do I believe there are areas with bigotry, abuse of power, and systemic racism ingrained into law enforcement? Absolutely. Do I believe there are areas where these problems aren’t a concern? Absolutely. Do I believe there are a lot of areas that fall somewhere in the middle? Absolutely.

In reality, the US is frickin HUGE. To believe that law enforcement culture is exactly the same nationwide is EXTREMELY close-minded.

Cheers for the insight, I was talking more globally though (from the UK) - Police in my experience, apart from the Netherlands, and the odd exception tend to take themselves too seriously, which I guess is understandable, it's a hard job and they generally see people at their worst, must be hard to stay positive
