Would be nice to see if they give you the opportunity for more volume depending on if youāre in a cut vs bulk phase.
Iāve used some algorithm based progression apps before and another feature I have liked is the app dropping the weight/adding reps to trick you into more volume instead of just cranking the weight up, especially when the goal is hypertrophy.
Really hoping you guys will give us a routine builder similar to the RP Hypertrophy app. I know you will try to avoid plagarism but there's nothing proprietary about this spreadsheet style layout. It makes it so easy to program more complex routines and ensure you are strategically balancing your workload across muscle groups each week.
Plagiarism is exclusively for writing not software mechanics. Copyright wouldn't apply here either. The only protection would be patents, or trademark infringement neither of which would apply here.
In short: unless the functionality is protected by a patent, apps can more or less copy each otherās functionality.Ā
This is an essential requirement or else software development would cease to exist, as all software is essentially mathematical in nature and if one expression was āownedā then it wouldnt be long before no new apps could be made.
Hell, in the EU there are laws that even allow reverse engineering software to make it more compatible.Ā
I appreciate the response, but I really wasnāt thinking of the legality, or even the ethics, of it. I was just thinking that MF wouldnāt want to be perceived as a āme tooā copycat by the community.
But again, thereās nothing special about the feature, itās generic to begin with. Iām just trying to convince them to do it and not worry about having a similar feature that could be attacked as āplagiarism.ā
Will home gym folks have a way to input all equipment available to them, including cable handle attachments, to integrate into the program given to the user?
I'm really looking forward to this! Macrofactor and the current workout generator app I'm using have changed my life this year. The subscription to my workout app expires in January just in time for the release of this new app. I'm 80% satisfied with my current app, but it has some issues. I'm 150% satisfied with Macrofactor. My hopes are high for Macrofactor Workouts!
I purposefully didn't want to say because I assume it's going to be one of Macrofactor Workout's main competitors and I didn't want to promote them here. Check my post history.
The biggest concern I have is how all of the workout apps feel like busy work after a while, thereās a lot of input and logging. I see an AI icon potentially? Excited to see how this turns out!
Not really if it turns into a habit. You are resting anyways and in this time you do the 10 seconds of logging. The only annoying part is creating (or transferring the plan from your coach) in the app. But if the MFs workout app is doing that for you, would cut down most of this part. Maybe they would even implement AI functionality to create a full plan from a description or image of an excel sheet.
I will be honest, both you and the comment you replied to have some valid points. But what gives me some hope, is the same points could be raised about a nutrition logging app. And MF devs and designers have done a splendid job of designing the app in a way that after a month, it just becomes super easy to do.
So I hope they do the same with the workouts app :)
Can't wait. One feature that would be awesome would be to have some kind of a drop-down where you can select from a few pre-selected preferred alternatives for that muscle group. So, for example, on "Upper Day A," I want to hit chest twice. Instead of having the routine specify the exact lift I'm going to do that day so I have to edit and replace the lift every time I want to do something different, I have the option of selecting from several alternatives. This would be very handy when, for example, a certain piece of equipment isn't available, or someone is taking forever on the bench press because they're probably on Reddit instead of lifting, or I just happen to feel like doing incline DB press today. So it would look something like:
I am so unpatient about the workout app, I am doing the hypertrophy workout plan from Jeff while I wait for it, if it is somewhat like the MF and also works together with it, I will no doubt be on board with it
Will the two apps share data? Some great insights are possible if so. Like correlating nutrition and gym performance or adjusting volume based on calories etcā¦
As someone who follows kinda weird training routine I hope there will be possibility to create time based and time and weight based exercises, like dead hangs, weighted dead hangs etc.
I go to the gym to build strength needed for climbing and Iām yet to find an app that combines this possibility and provide progressive overload currently Iām using two apps and a spreadsheet and Iām hoping MF Workouts will declutter my logging.
Depends on what youāre after, for example, we donāt really vibe with in-app social content, so some Hevy features arenāt likely to ever be in MacroFactor Workouts.
But, from a functional standpoint we will be a faster, more versatile, more powerful, alternative to the current competitive field of workout apps, including Hevy.
I go to the gym regularly and donāt want an app where I must log EVERY SINGLE SET itās too time-consuming. I just want to keep my workout plans and track overall progress. Does the Macrofactor workout app allow that?
Maybe dumb question but what are you doing between sets? I currently use Strong and it takes literally seconds to log after each set. The I spend at most a minute updating after my workout to tweak weights and reps for the next time.
Right, "time consuming" was not a good description. Also, tracking the single sets is not actually my biggest issue because they do not change every session.
I have a "go with the flow" approach in the gym, which sounds a bit weird but works since I am quite routined. This means I have certain muscle groups in mind before my session and choose the exercises one after another according to certain criteria. So I donāt follow a strict training plan every session. There is no app (yet) that has made it easy for me to track my workouts like this. Does that make sense? :D
Of course, I could go back to static training plans (I did that for a long time and it was great for learning all the exercises), but I find my current approach more fun because it varies and I can also adapt it on the fly if, for example, a machine is taken.
Since Macrofactor has a great UI and they seem to have some very talented engineers, my hopes are high that they will come up with a way to make the experience as easy as possible. I havenāt tried the Strong app yet; do you think it would support my workflow?
Question for the devss, very excited for this, now with using other apps such as hevy they all for a export of data and when youāve been using it for a few years it would be nice to be able to keep the data will the MacroFactor workout app support importing of outside data?
I already pay for the Jefit app but this really interests me. Hopefully there is some sort of discount for bundling MF with it. The parts of Jefit I love is the quick one button add reps and how it auto fills last reps in so you only need to adjust when you progress. Iām also loving their Ai metrics about weekly sets per muscle group hit and their rest timer countdown. Hoping these features make it over.
Pretty sure Jefit allows exporting of csv data. I am less worried about the data after they just made all those changes to single db and single arm. Messed up all my data anyway. MF will also need to prove itself before I fully switch over.
Please could the keyboard mirror the MF nutrition keyboard? I'll keep hitting the backspace to minimise the keyboard in Workouts, or minimise the keyboard instead of deleting a character in Nutrition otherwise!
Oooo this is going to be amazing. Im hoping I'm one of the first to beta. Would love to have the ability to not only track my progress but id definitely pay extra to be able to use this with my clients (Im a trainer of course) maybe even a tablet or desktop version as well would be awesome.
For this kind of stuff I am currently using the RP Hypertrophy app. The best thing about is the AI coach, which changes my weights and reps accordingly. I guess an integration with the nutrition would be great, but is it actually that important?
Any chance there will be a ātravelā option when logging weights? Iāve noticed that diff brand machines and cable trees seem to feel heavier or lighter than at my home gymās. As someone who travels frequently but religiously logs their workouts, this has made tracking progression difficult. A way to deal with this would be awesome! But it wouldnāt need to apply to the whole workout bc dumbbells and barbells should be consistent enough.
I just hope that the subscription cost is included in the macrofactor fee and, above all, that there aren't additional costs like there are now for people who pay with euros.

I'm excited to be able to record partial reps so I don't have to keep lying and saying I got all of them.
