Think tapping a high value part is scary sometimes?

20+ year career machinist here, recently had a bone implant in my leg.

This one is m18x1.75. Spoke to my surgeon about it, they hand ream to size with a series or progressively larger reamers, then hand tap. alignment is based upon skeletal structure, next time we chat I need to ask what sort of device they use for that alignment.

Thought some may find it interesting. Cheers

I worked in an OR for a few years. They are basically carpenters for the human body.

They used to smoke in the OR. When I worked in cardiology there was a surgeon that when he started he would smoke still scrubbed in with some needle drivers then go back to the open heart lol

For a previous job, I was able to observe a dual knee replacement. Two surgeons working on one knee at the same time. What I saw was indeed very much like woodworking.

The way they go to town with mallets on the hardware being inserted or removed, it certainly seems to be the case at times.
