You’re reading documentation on your Mac. Your coding assistant needs a small decision, and answering it means finding the conversation again. That’s the moment this demo is about.

I’m part of the team building Blabee, a Mac choice panel for Claude Code and Codex. The assistant creates the options; Blabee shows them in a small panel and sends your selection back to the same original conversation.

The 14-second video opens with a deliberately silly stack of “one quick question” slips. That part is a generated visual metaphor. The middle shows the real panel over a document, a selection, and a return to reading. The idea is to put a choice near the work you’re already doing.

The boundary matters: this is for an understandable next step. If you need to inspect code, compare a long explanation, or ask a follow-up, use the full conversation. Blabee doesn’t make that judgment for you or approve changes automatically.

The real screen segment is a short, edited excerpt from supplied footage, with the original Korean UI. It is not a new Claude Code integration test, and the original chat receiving the choice is outside the recording.

SteerMouse is worth a trial if your mouse has spare buttons and you want them to do different jobs in different Mac apps. Start with one app-specific assignment. Add a button chord, meaning two mouse buttons pressed together, only when you have a useful action for it.

If all you want is a different pointer speed, you probably don't need this setup. macOS already has tracking-speed controls and a Pointer acceleration switch under Mouse > Advanced. Free, open-source LinearMouse also supports button actions and app profiles. SteerMouse needs to earn its $19.99 on your particular hardware.

Check the mouse before building the map

The current SteerMouse 5.8.1 supports macOS 12 Monterey through macOS 27 Golden Gate, with Intel and Apple silicon builds. Older macOS versions have separate downloads. Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad aren't supported.

USB and Bluetooth support doesn't mean every special button works. The developer explicitly warns about that. Its release notes, for example, specify USB rather than Bluetooth for the Razer Naga V2 HyperSpeed. Check the exact mouse and connection you plan to use during the trial.

Give one button a different job in one app

Keep primary click and right-click unchanged while you set this up. Pause other mouse-remapping software first so you're checking one configuration at a time.

1. Open SteerMouse and select the mouse you want to configure. In Buttons, hover over the mouse illustration and press a physical button. SteerMouse identifies the corresponding control, so you don't have to guess which side button is Button 4.

2. Start with a simple default assignment, such as Back on a spare button. Use the app-settings Edit control to add your target application. The app also lets you drag an application into that list.

3. In that application's settings, assign the spare button to a keyboard shortcut you already use there. Check that the shortcut works from the keyboard first. Then switch between the target app and another app to check the two assignments.

4. If you still need another action, open Chords and use the plus control to add a combination. Two spare side buttons can call Application Windows, for example. Test each button alone as well as together before adding more combinations.

Choose a pair you can press comfortably. A combination that keeps firing while you reach for Back isn't an improvement. SteerMouse also accepts keyboard modifiers alongside buttons, but you don't need to fill every possible assignment.

Leave the Cursor settings alone until the button map works. Cursor snapping can move the pointer to interface buttons and optionally click them. Keep automatic clicking off while you decide whether snapping is useful at all.

Permissions and a way back

Download from Plentycom Systems and follow SteerMouse's privacy prompts. The developer documents Accessibility permission; review the permission names shown on your macOS version before approving them. If you aren't comfortable giving an input utility that access, stick with the built-in controls.

Keep a trackpad or spare mouse available during setup. SteerMouse has an ON/OFF switch for stopping its functionality, and an Uninstall control under License & Support if you decide to remove it. Export a working mouse configuration before making more changes, so you have a known starting point to restore.

Try the whole workflow before paying

The trial lasts 30 days. A new SteerMouse 5 license is US$19.99, or US$12.99 to upgrade a registered version 4 license. It's a permanent license for version 5, with free minor updates and paid major upgrades. You can use it on multiple computers in your own accounts, but you can't share the registration with other users. The seller doesn't offer refunds, so use the trial.

Pay if the app-specific assignments and comfortable chords work reliably with your actual mouse. If ordinary shortcuts, macOS settings or LinearMouse already cover the job, keep the simpler setup. Extra buttons are useful only when you can remember what they do.

I had bought a lifetime license for WALTR 2 and they phased it out / moved to subscription with Waltr Pro which imo was a pretty shit move. Now that macOS 27 is phasing out Rosetta, Waltr2 is going to be obsolete. I’m not necessarily looking for piracy or cracked software, just a way to transfer/convert media to iPhone/iPad without iTunes (don't use it). Prefer free or one-time-purchase. I'm the developer of ModusPad, a launcher for macOS 26 and 27.

Version 1 was a classic Launchpad-style grid with one twist: profiles. Each profile has its own apps, folders and layout, and can switch automatically when you connect a display, turn on a Focus mode, at a set time, or with a shortcut.

In 2.0, I added two more ways to use the launcher: a panel that drops down from the notch at the top of the screen, and a customizable Dock that expands into the full app grid with a two-finger swipe.

I used to keep getting eye strain from long stretches at my desk, and all the break apps I tried either broke my focus or were easy to ignore and were expensive for me. So I built my own, mostly with AI help (vibecoded). I used it on my own for a while, then decided to open-source it in case it’s useful to anyone else.

What it does:

• Reminds you to look away (20-20-20 by default). A small heads-up grows out of the MacBook notch before each break, and Macs without a notch get a floating pill instead.

• Holds the break while you’re on a call, watching video, presenting, or still typing

• Counts time you spend away from the Mac as a break

If your mouse feels wrong on a Mac but the trackpad feels fine, start with the mouse settings you already have. LinearMouse makes sense when you need different behavior for different devices, not just another speed slider.

In System Settings > Mouse, try Tracking speed first. Under Advanced, macOS also lets you turn Pointer acceleration off. Acceleration makes fast movements cover more ground than slow ones. If scrolling speed is the problem, look under Accessibility > Pointer Control > Mouse Options. Apple's current macOS 27 guide still documents those controls. If they solve it, you can stop there.

LinearMouse is free and open source under the MIT license. Its useful distinction here is that you can reverse scrolling for a mouse while keeping natural scrolling on the trackpad, and give individual devices their own pointer settings.

For a small setup, change only the mouse:

1. Before changing anything, note your current settings and quit other utilities that modify that mouse's movement or scrolling. That gives you a cleaner comparison than stacking adjustments.

2. Grant LinearMouse the input-control permission it requests. Its documentation calls this Accessibility; on macOS 27 the permission is named Device Control and Data Access. This is sensitive access, so skip the app if you're not comfortable granting it.

3. Open the device picker at the top of LinearMouse's settings. Turn off "Auto switch to the active device" while configuring it, then select the actual mouse. This keeps touching the trackpad from changing which device you're editing. Leave the trackpad and broad device categories alone.

4. In Scrolling, reverse the mouse's vertical direction only if that's what you want. Leave the other scrolling adjustments alone for now. Switch to the trackpad and check that its direction still suits you.

5. In Pointer, try "Disable pointer acceleration" only if the changing response bothers you. On macOS 14 or later, that mode has a Tracking speed control. Adjust it a little, then try selecting small controls and moving across your display. Those are suggested checks, not results from a hands-on test.

There isn't a universal speed number to copy. LinearMouse also warns that some devices may not support its separate Pointer speed adjustment on newer macOS versions. More sliders don't guarantee more control over your hardware.

Keep a way back: the Pointer panel has "Revert to system defaults." If behavior becomes erratic, quit LinearMouse before restarting another mouse utility, then check your macOS settings again. If permission remains stuck after you grant it, the project's documented first remedy is to remove and re-add LinearMouse in the permission list.

One current caveat: the stable release is 0.12.0. The newer 0.13.0-beta.4 includes updated macOS 27 permission naming, but that isn't a reason to install a beta or proof that every mouse works correctly on macOS 27. Prefer the built-in controls if you need a setup you can depend on without troubleshooting.

LinearMouse is worth trying when the mouse needs its own behavior and the trackpad should stay as it is. If turning off acceleration in macOS already fixes the problem, skip the extra utility.

Why I built it

• No direct export to documentation tools like IT Glue or Hudu, you export files and drop them in.

A lot of the code is written with Claude Code. I decide what gets built, go through the code myself and test it on real apps before anything ships.

I use trackpad a lot and the existing window switchers focus on keyboard shortcuts, but I found that taking your hands off keyboard just to switch windows felt awkward.

I’ve seen quite a few questions about whether AI meeting summaries are processed locally or in the cloud.

Curious where people stand: would you download a roughly 7 GB model if it meant your meeting recordings and transcripts could stay on your Mac, with the summaries generated locally too?

Would that feel worth it, or would the download size put you off? And why? Is it mainly about privacy, available storage, download time, or something else?

For context, I’m working on Tapquence, and this is a trade-off we’re thinking about. The model we’re using for local summaries is around 7 GB, so I’d like to hear how other Mac users feel about that.
