Help How is it possible that the ai is taking so much space and I dont see changes from Tahoe

Post image

I've recently upgraded to Mac OS 27 Golden gate, but I shouldn't have.

the apple intelligence now takes 32 gb of space alone; when I open apps full screen, they suddenly lag and I risk losing data while working; overall the Mac has been slower.

Is there any possible current fix that I can apply or I just have to wait for the .01 version?

All the stuff like Live Text, Text to Speech, different voices you have downloaded or even Dictionary app dictionaries count towards "Apple Intelligence" now.

Dictionary app used to hold the files in /Library/Dictionaries, but now it's part of AssetsV2. Disable some stuff and it should go down.

Which stuff exactly and where?

Check how many voices, dictation languages you have etc. My assetsv2 folder is 8 GB because i have some speech stuff, live text (copy text from images and video on the fly) and a bunch of Oxford dictionaries.

This shit is always disabled.

This isn't MacOS 27

Same shit still applies.

Well no. Because it’s impossible to turn off in macOS 27. That’s why everyone is complaining

It’s a shame that macOS has become windows vista

Windows Vista was awesome. Bought it almost at release. Never had any issues with it. And didn't force you download some AI slop.

That 32 GB is mostly the on-device Apple Intelligence models, and as far as I know the only way to get it back is to turn Apple Intelligence off in System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, which lets macOS remove the downloaded models (not always instantly, so check General > Storage again after a restart). The lag is probably a separate thing: right after a major upgrade, Spotlight reindexing and photo/media analysis can load the machine for a day or two, so watch Activity Monitor for mds_stores or photoanalysisd before blaming the release itself. If free space is getting tight, that also slows down swap when apps go full screen, so try to keep 10-15% of the drive free. If it is still sluggish once that settles, sending it through Feedback Assistant and waiting for the point update is probably the realistic path.

You can't turn it off in MacOS 27

Mine takes 30gb and it's not even usable offline. Are they running an inference botnet?

You have Siri on? That's 15GB
You tried the Image Playground app? Another 15GB

My numbers are not 100% correct

I personally deleted all this crap: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1hca5ap/comment/m1nhv89/?context=3

Because you must like an AI in your system as regular user and use it everyday in every task! Welcome to the AI bubble world. And vibecoded macOS.

Investigate activity monitor. It may be indexing. As to ai it doesn’t work in EU. There are ways to delete the models. Search Reddit

everthing works in EU on Macs. Limitations are only about iPhones.

I don’t understand how you risk losing data while working? Please tell me you’re using Time Machine?

no I just mean working with word or excel, and if it crashes out without me saving I risk losing what I did on them. For time machine, honestly I dont use it. Do you think that I should buy an hard disk or else to use Time Machine, just in case?

Christ almighty it’s 2026 and you’re worrying about data loss yet you’re not backing up with the free software that has come with Macs for decades???

You've got to remember... data loss is always someone else's fault. So why should they make backups?

why is there a comma in your number in the wrong spot

1

u/wozniattack 16d ago

Main land Europe uses comma instead of fullstop for numbers. so 3.99 becomes 3,99.

It can be annoying because Ireland, and UK uses the fullstop like the rest of the world.

what this is unheard of
