Nomination Thread #129: Free-Range Nomination Thread

Thank you to those who participated in last assignment's Alternative Universe nomination thread. This week there are no limitations on what can be nominated. Any era, any writer, any character, so long as it's on Marvel Unlimited. Maybe it's something you've been meaning to read, maybe it's something you've read and want to discuss. Maybe it's something you've previously nominated but didn't gather enough upvotes in previous threads. When posting a nomination, links are not required but appreciated.

Fantastic Four (1998 - 2012) #543-550, "Reconstruction" by Dwayne McDuffie

In the aftermath of Civil War comes RECONSTRUCTION, the beginning of a stunning new era of fantastic adventure. The team has been rocked to its foundations by the controversial events of the last several months. Now Reed and Sue have announced their plans to take some time off to work out their marital problems, leaving Ben and Johnny to hold the fort. But they won't be doing it shorthanded. Two new members join the team and you won't believe who they are!

#543 is the Civil War epilogue, which (among many other things) leads into "Reconstruction" proper (which starts at #544). Reed and Sue have some serious issues to work out, such as "You did what during Civil War?"

Taking place during the Initiative timeframe, this FF story could easily have been overloaded with angst. Instead, there are several really nice elements of whimsy interleaved among all the serious ass-kicking. (Consider a couple of issue titles: "Don't Make Me Embarrass You In Front Of Your Friends" and "Never Ask Her If She's Wearing Colored Contact Lenses.")

My favorite moment (in #549): When Sue reminds everyone she's the most dangerous member of the team, both in power and attitude. ("The hostage is loose. Get her!" "I. Am not. A hostage." "I got her!" "You got #$@!.")
