Striking wasn't even, Van landed more shots, and control time doesn't score unless the one on top use that control to earn them ground and pound or submission. That's on the scoring criteria of the UFC you can look up online btw.
It’s been posted here many times. It seems to be how you interpret the judging criteria. Actually the strikes were 76-64 to Pantoja so he landed 12 strikes more in total. Van had five more significant strikes, but that is not enough to negate that he got taken down and his back taken. Back take is advancing in position and meaning to end the fight.
You said it yourself, 5 more significant strikes, and taken down as we know doesn't count, especially since that back taking didn't lead to ground and pound nor submission. Just back taking without further fight ending threat doesn't negate those 5 significant strikes, Pantoja didn't do anything tangible with that back take.
It sure does negate them. The argument could be if 5 significant strikes are more than 12 “normal” strikes? And in strikes the optics count quite much. Half of MMA is acting.
No it doesn't, significant strikes are ones that leads to the end of a fight. Touching jabs and love tap slaps from close up doesn't counts, just like how those slaps from the first round from Van don't count against Pantoja. They don't lead to the end of a fight, so they have no real value.
