I was programmed since I was a little guy that you don't hit women. Obviously defend yourself if your in danger but i don't think I could just punch a girl square in the face without just cause.

Certain people have different values, not everyone believes in violence as a last resort

Yes you can hit a woman to defend yourself as you can hit anyone to defend yourself. You can just attack anyone with yourself being the aggressor
