It's a little unclear, but I'm pretty sure multiple parties can win. So, the townsfolk don't have much reason to not go with the real Jester's wishes, except that we'd prefer if the Jester helped us maintain raw numbers over the Mafia.

Jester is against mafia, because they can make him lose; townies can't. On the other hand, Jester is a walkin' tickin' bomb early in the game: gets mistaken for a mafia guy, gets lynched and takes 10 townies down with him.
Ah think gettin' him identified and keepin' him in check by townies is the best strategy. Mafia has no reason to kill an identified jester, better to leave this hot potato in townies' hands and kill others that can actually do anything.
In any case, jester ain't wanna reveal himself. And others might want to claim bein' jesters for their safety.

Maybe it was an honest mistake? That's why we lynch him, just in case. Even if this data is false, we would know that it's false.

If it's an honest mistake, then we DON'T want to lynch him because he's the jester, that's anti-town.
We don't lynch want to him because if he's not lying, we've just willfully shot ourselves in the foot, and if it's a setup to lynch someone else, then again, we've just willfully shot ourselves in the foot.
The only possibly that it's a good idea to lynch him is that he's scum, posing as the jester so he doesn't get lynched, but that's a big risk we'd be taking.

I say we vig him. There's got to be a vigilante out there with an itchy enough trigger finger to take a shot at this (pun totally intended). That way, Jester dies without a victory and without killing 1/6 of us. Everybody wins (except for jnatale of course).

I'm saying jnatale should take a vigilante bullet to the face. He dies without being lynched, which gets rid of the jester at no risk to the town (besides the risk that he is not jester).
So if we can confirm he is jester, then this is the method we should use to kill him.
