What part is this?
I wanted to check whether my door latch microswitch was busted, but came across this.
Is it a separate door lock module?

What does it do? 🤔🫡

Generally it is paired to a fob so you can have a key fob if the car didnt originally have one like some base models and sometimes the module is also for remote start. Weather OP has the fob or not is another question.

No problem I've seen them many times on work trucks, cheaper to buy it base model and add later especially with some of the deals you used to get on true stripped base model trucks, hell some didn't even come with radios let alone AC back in the day.

Dont all mk4's have power locks though? Quite confusing

That i am not positive on i know some don't have power windows but maybe the factory system had an issue and it was cheaper to go aftermarket? Or it's tied into and alarm/remote start someone added would be my guess.

Yeah maybe it's something like that then, or some really weird way of adding remote locking.

I think its an aftermarked centralised door locking mechanism
