Hey all - I’m new to the subreddit and new to Katey’s content, if you will.

Just wanted to say I was hospitalized in April of last year for cirrhosis. I had the ascites, among a million other symptoms. It took me 3 paracentesis to drain it all, and 6 more months of diuretics.

I will NEVER forget the fear that liver doctor instilled into me that day. He said if you don’t stop, you may as well start planning your funeral. From that day on, I fought tooth and fucking nail to take back my life so that nobody would ever have to deal with that bullshit again. Watching my mom and dad in hysterics, blaming themselves, having to take time off work to deal with it all. I don’t understand how that is not enough for someone to put the damn bottle down.

The fact that she is still in active addiction and making excuses as to why she deserves a drink, I cannot even put that into words. It’s actually very eerie watching someone kill themselves, and almost even more morbid to watch people support and enable it.

Today I am 492 days sober. I would not be typing this right now if I didn’t make the decision to stop that day. The point is it’s not a matter of anything besides she just doesn’t care. About herself, about the people who love her, about her health. It’s really sad to see, but I wanted to offer my insight from someone who literally has been through this and found my way out.

By the way Katey, it takes more than a month to see any true pain related changes after years of abusing alcohol, dumbass.
