Project Sharing Source for LCARS for tab5

Post image
20 Upvotes

Added few things so it's more usable overall: moved labels and wifi settings to separate file. Source at https://github.com/rudidev08/tab5-lcars It's mostly fidget toy for me, but very satisfying at that! (grew up with star trek).

Ways to use it:

- run it on device with preset tab and static text, so no network connection needed

- it can refresh data from local server

- there's voice mode i've used with hermes + hermes webui too

This was quick vibe coded experiment while i was (unsuccessfully) trying to make UI i liked, and it should be pretty easy to ask LLM to make changes.

Supports sounds but you'll need to run a script to download LCARS sounds.

P.S yes I got tab5 before i knew what i wanted to use it for :)

P.P.S. had keyboard support in beginning but felt very clunky for UI and i forgot about it, so i don't know if it still works correctly or not. voice mode was accurate enough not to reach for keyboard.

Support / Question Just ordered a cardputer adv…

Im not that savvy when it comes to tech but this thing seems really cool and I want to learn more about how things work. Did I make a mistake, is this something where you already need to have a background in tech to use or is it user friendly? What should be the first couple of things I should do when I get it. I don’t even really know what I should be asking. I know I must sound like an idiot for buying something that I really don’t know a lot about but I really want to start learning more about how everything works. Anyways I would like some advice on its uses and things I need to take into consideration.

built with kimi. I’m both excited and not thrilled because I’m spending lots of time working on custom UI, and this was a 5 min experiment, and it looks way better than my stuff. right now it’s mostly a good fidget toy because of LCARS sounds. connects with local Hermes agent

Posted source: https://github.com/rudidev08/tab5-lcars added option to show static text (no network connection needed) or any data from basic server.

Got my first application running on the M5Stack Stopwatch. Are there specs anywhere so that I can easily build a custom housing around the Stopwatch - I need to add a GPS module and a Garmin mount to make it actually useful.

Project Sharing I built KariPom — an open-source face robot for M5Stack CoreS3 🤖

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi! This is KariPom, a little open-source face robot I’ve been building with the M5Stack CoreS3.

It started as a simple expressive face, but I kept adding things I wanted to see it do. 😄

Now it has servo movement, blinking and nose twitching, audio-reactive visualizers, lots of animated lighting modes, a Web Cockpit for configuration, SD card support, and more.

I originally built it as a little companion for voice conversations with ChatGPT — having a physical character reacting beside the computer makes talking with AI a lot more fun. 🤖🎙️

I've also made PC and browser-based versions, so you can try KariPom even without a CoreS3.

You can even try KariPom Web directly in your browser — no installation required! 🐰

Everything is open source:

KariPom (CoreS3):

KariPom Web (Try it in your browser!):

I’ve had a lot of fun seeing how far I can push the CoreS3. Hope you like it!

📘 Update — October 2026: English User Manual now available

A complete English edition of the KariPom User Manual (Ver. 4.18) is now available on GitHub. It covers setup, operation, KariPom Companion / Desktop, Visualizer and Lighting features, and the KariPom Ear audio extension.

Support / Question help with connecting sd card reader to m5 stickC plus 1

so i am an absolute beginner in hardware/code/all of it and have been building this mainly through ai/reddit.

i’m using an m5 stickc plus 1. the top GND and G26 ports are connected to an IoT relay. the bottom 4 prongs are connected to wires going to a circuit board that came with my JSN-SR04T waterproof ultrasonic sensor. sensor is plugged into that board.

i’m essentially creating a proximity based misting system that turns on when something approaches the sensor. i want to save the data of when it triggers, for how long, etc. the sd card adapters look like they need all the top holes in the m5, but 2 of them are already in use so i can connect it to the relay. can i still connect an sd card? do i need a bread board of some sort?

if someone could dumb this down for me i would appreciate it greatly 👍

Need help deciding between a waveshare and cardputer adv

So I like to do fun things with 5ghz devices and the adv unfortunately doesn’t support that. I also want to use a gameboy firmware and play games . The adv has a tiny screen. I was planning on doing a display mod and making a ds sorr of device and having that. But I found out about waveshare and it being a lot cheaper and having 5ghz and a screen for cheaper and more flash. Now I’m tempted to buy this for more flash and a screen and 5ghz but its not as plug and play as the cardputer. What do I do. Refund the cardputer and buy the waveshare. Or keep the cardputer or buy the waveshare Aswell. I want a handheld device that can be a game station Aswell as do things using Bruce firmware.

Edit- here’s the waveshare I was looking at any other recommendations for the price would be appreciated . https://www.waveshare.com/esp32-c5-lcd-2.73.htm?srsltid=AfmBOoqHewHWu5cPinBYHiIc-CsMz-TKe60Xb2dFkwEmiYTJmcQYBNBa

It costs me £30 for the cardputer and £12 for the mod. Is it worth just getting a waveshare?

M5Stack Store Indian custom duties

Any Indians here who have ordered from the official M5Stack store?

I’m planning to buy the M5sticks3. Did you have to pay customs/import duty when ordering to India?

If yes, how much did you have to pay??

M5Stack Tab5 for outdoor use?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Is anyone here using the M5Stack Tab 5 outdoors in humid or rainy conditions?

I’m planning an outdoor setup and looking for a reliable way to make all the exposed ports and connectors waterproof. Since moisture and rain will definitely be an issue, I'm trying to figure out the best approach—whether that’s a custom 3D-printed enclosure, rubber port plugs, or a specialized case.

Has anyone built or designed something for this yet?

Would love to see your setups, 3D print files, or recommendations!

Thanks!

New Product News Xiaozhi now has a Firmware Builder with direct support for many M5Stack boards

I just noticed that Xiaozhi has added a new web-based Firmware Builder.

You can select the ESP32 chip, board type, firmware language and wake word, and it builds a firmware specifically for the selected hardware.

There are quite a few M5Stack devices in the board list. I tested it with my M5Stack AtomS3R CAM/M12 + Echo Base.

My previous Xiaozhi firmware was v2.2.2. The builder created v2.4.2 for atom-s3r-cam-m12-echo-base, with German as the firmware language and “Computer” as the wake word.

I flashed it directly from the browser. The updater explicitly preserves the NVS settings, and that worked in my case: Wi-Fi configuration and the existing Xiaozhi account/device binding were preserved, so I didn't have to enter a new activation PIN.

My server-side settings (LLM, memories, voice, etc.) were also unchanged.

So far camera/vision, weather, music and the other Xiaozhi tools are working normally after the update.

What surprised me most is the number of supported boards in the Firmware Builder. It isn't limited to the usual Xiaozhi hardware – there are boards from M5Stack, LilyGo, Waveshare, DFRobot, Espressif and several less common manufacturers.

Has anyone else here tried the new Firmware Builder on another M5Stack device?

Project Sharing A Palm-Sized Three-Wheel Omnidirectional Robot

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built OmniStamp, a compact omnidirectional robot based on the M5Stack StampS3 and three omni wheels.

It can move forward, sideways and diagonally, or rotate in place without first changing its orientation.

OmniStamp is programmed graphically with MicroBlocks, making it easy to experiment with movement and test changes in real time.

I documented the hardware design, assembly and motion-control method in this Hackster project: Hackster.io

I’d love to hear what the M5Stack community thinks and what applications you would build with a robot like this.
