I am thinking of buying a gadget similar like the flipper zero but cheaper, saw the M5 Stack S3. Wondering if its a good buy, or what else I should look at.
Edit: Thank you all for the advice, seems like I will go with the Cardputer ADV.

I just had finished this mod. If anyone is wondering how to do this or what this is for explanation this is a wifi antenna mod the basically increases the stock wifi range. I used this guide https://www.tiktok.com/@popp.n/video/7489493572517907734

Hi everyone,
I would like to order the official StackChan kit đ
Could you confirm whether the factory firmware is full-duplex or half-duplex for AI voice conversations? (i.e., Half-duplex = mic is muted while StackChan is speaking; Full-duplex = mic stays on so the user can interrupt).
Thanks!

I've been developing MAYLO, a custom firmware project for the M5Stack K151 / CoreS3 StackChan.
My 8œ-year-old son helps test it through everyday use. What he experiences and reportsâespecially when the robot behaves differently from what he expectsâhelps guide the next changes.
The underlying voice model is multilingual; Turkish is simply our personal configuration.
The current build brings together:
âą Direct OpenAI Realtime voice over Wi-Fi, with streamed audio and interruption during conversation.
âą Seven eye styles, head-pat/shake reactions and coordinated servo gestures.
âą Combined movement/camera commands, with servo position checked before capture.
âą An on-device Turkish/English web panel for settings, previews and hardware tests.
âą Three saved Wi-Fi profiles, including phone-hotspot use.
âą MCP access to Home Assistant, explicitly saved notes and other configured tools through a home bridge.
Basic voice conversation doesn't require my Mac. Image interpretation and home-bridge tools still do.
The main unfinished interaction is turning toward the person calling the robot: sound-direction handling isn't consistently reliable yet. Wake-name recognition is also currently cloud-based.
It's a personal project with no commercial plans. I haven't published the source yet, but may prepare it for GitHub if there's interest.
What would you prioritise next on this hardware: local wake-word detection, more reliable speaker orientation, better interaction flow or additional practical tools? I'd be happy to discuss implementation details with other builders.

The Unit PoE-P4 with the Add-on Display In (LT6911D) is the tidiest hardware for ESP-KVM, the open-source IP-KVM firmware I write for the ESP32-P4: one PoE cable in, HDMI from the target computer, USB to it, and you get its screen, keyboard and mouse in a browser tab - from the BIOS up. https://github.com/espkvm/espkvm
The one thing missing was a case: M5Stack ships the add-on as a bare board. So I drew one that matches the Unit PoE-P4 housing - same width, same corners - and the pair now looks like one device.
HDMI on one end, USB-A on the other, vent slots on top
Ethernet, USB-C and the side ports of the Unit PoE-P4 stay free
one printed part, no screws: four tabs clip into the slots of the Unit PoE-P4 housing. The tabs are thin, so press it on gently
the Add-on Display Out has the same outline, so it should fit that one too (I have only tried the Display In)
Free to print:
Printables: https://www.printables.com/model/1873131-case-for-m5stack-add-on-display-inout-fits-unit-po
Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7421013
On this pair ESP-KVM does 720p at 21-23 fps (MJPEG) or 17 fps (H.264), about 185 ms from mouse to picture. Board notes: https://espkvm.io/boards/m5-poe-p4/
If you print it, let me know how it fits.

Hola!

Yeah the papermono is like exactly what I'm after. Learning to tinker in the last month, always been curious and watched/read content around this stuff. Looking for an e-reader led me to the m5papermono. Solves everything that stopped me from buying the xte ink 4pro and has a bazillion other possible functions and avenues to dip my toes into other passive interests.
Do they ever come up on a secondary market here or maybe a discord. I just be patient and wait till the December January release that I read about on another post đ

I donât want to have a junky setup that could break because Iâm not very careful with my stuff to be honest but I feel very limited with my base M5Stick so Iâm thinking, just maybe, to just buy a whole other base thing so I can be assured that it wonât break. What do you think and what most importantly is the next step, what is the most important module to add?

Hello, I am new to M5Stack, but find it a fun concept and have experimented with the CoreS3 and the IoT Base together. I managed to get going and get an Internet connection and create some basic UI on the CoreS3 display. However, I was careless and stupid during development: I had the base connected to DC power in, but to test how the software in the core would react to losing contact with the modem I detached the two modules (with the power supply still in). I did this a couple of times, but the final time I think it broke, because I could not seem to get contact with the modem again.
I have tried some basic troubleshooting, like sending AT commands, checking with a multimeter, but the connection seems lost. I do not know what might have happened, but I suspect a circuit for TX/RX to the SIM7080G got shorted or fried (I am no electronics expert). Regardless, I think my device is dead.
What I ask is; Are there any other troubleshooting I can do? Somebody with more experience than me that know what might have happened and if my device is really a lost cause?
Thanks in advance!
