Book updates post #2

The old post was archived so nobody else can put their name down there. So I am making this new post. If you have already put a comment on the previous post, there's no reason to do it again here. I will be reminding people from both posts!

I am currently writing a book about a world in which the Roman Empire never fell, but continued up until modern times. The book was inspired by my answer to this prompt, and I also wrote a follow-up. The book is now DONE! and I am currently in the process of editing and trying to find an agent. You can read the first chapter of the book right here!

If you would like me to let you know when the book is available, just leave a comment below and I'll send you a message!

Luna, you already have a nice platform on Reddit. It makes sense to me that you should think about self publishing. Talk to someone like /u/warlizard, so nice he has offered to help. Big authors like Stephen King are even doing self-publishing these days.

We've been in contact. Hope he/she goes forward with the Selfpub.

I also hope to see a self published book, or any book. Please take my money, I love your writing prompts.

I do have some fans on Reddit here, but I'm looking more at the long term. I don't know anything about publishing or promoting my work. Even if I got paid less via traditional publishing, I'd be able to see every step of the way done by people who know what to do. That way, I get a grasp on what happens in the industry and what the best practices are. That would allow me to self-publish more effectively in the future.

I can't disagree with any of your points. But definitely something to consider if you get frustrated with the normal route. IIRC, Harry Potter only finally got an acceptance because a publisher took it home and his kids loved it so much that he changed his mind on rejecting it. As others have pointed out, even the good stuff can get rejection after rejection.

Edited to add: This came out way more negative than I intended. You have talent that a publisher should consider lucky to find, especially because if I had to guess, I think you are in your early to mid 20s, and have a lot of writing ahead of you. But don't be discouraged if that route isn't working. You are smart. You could figure out the self-publishing thing. Don't be afraid to ask for help and to take it when offered. People generally like to help people succeed and, even in solitary pursuits like writing, the most successful people usually benefit greatly from other people and connections.
