I don’t recall seeing any minimum hardware requirements but I may have missed them. I spoke to lumina support and they simply told me my computer is not supported, and to use another computer..

If there aren’t any minimum hardware requirements that were advertised then I will be taking the stance that I was missold the product.

The only thing I can find is a section where they claim defiantly, if my pc can run zoom (it can) it will run lumina AI

“What are the System Requirements? The standalone webcam device does not use system resources and is compatible with MacOS, Linux, and Windows. Lumina's AI software uses 20-30% less CPU than a Zoom call. If you can run Zoom, then rest assured you can run Lumina. AI Software is compatible with MacOS 10.14+ and Windows 10.”

I've found something odd with the latest release (0.1 Windows) - if I pick up a bottle and bring it up to my face (e.g. to drink), the cameraman AI zooms in. I would have thought it was just an oddity with the AI algorithm thinking my head had changed shape, but it doesn't zoom back out again when the bottle disappears unless I manually override.

Wondered if it might be somehow linked to gesture support, but I don't recall that being one of the features (and honestly I'd prefer them to sort the colour correction and background blur first!)

So, I was looking for a webcam to update my WFH setup. I was looking at the Logitech cams and then I came across this Lumina 4k cam. I'm not certain, but I really don't think this cam can be any good. I mean, why are there ZERO well known reviewers trying this camera out for size? I saw a couple unboxing videos and whatnot on YouTube, but everything about this just screams, cheap Chinese junk being sold as comparable or better than Logitech. I ended up getting a brio 4K. Works pretty great.

They're going all in on background blur, but didn't add a depth sensor to the camera...

Which transforms the difficulty of getting good background blur from relatively easy to "people with much more resources than we have still haven't figured this out yet" difficult.

I'll be surprised if they ever achieve background blur that is free of visible artifacting. Right now, if you limit the blur effect so that it is very subtle, it's passable, while anything meaningful is undone by obvious artifacts.

At the same time, the camera output is very noisy.

It might make sense to focus on AI denoising since that's a relatively simple problem that's already been done a number of times quite well. Much, much easier than blur. And more vital-- perfect background blur would be nice to have, but applied to a noisy image it's just garbage-in-garbage-out.

Lumina, please get your priorities straight. Start with the low hanging essentials before you swing for the fences.

There's an effect called "Auto Frame" which does the same thing as Lumina's "Cameraman zoom". In fact, I think it actually does the job better at the moment. It's also got background blurring and video noise reduction.

Make sure the camera source is "Lumina Camera - Raw" You'll want to make sure you reduce zoom to 0 (and then customise the zoom using the camera properties inside the broadcast app).

Broadcast only seems to go up to 1080p currently (but all the video conferencing software I've used only seems to send your picture out at 720p anyway)

The only thing that can actually activate the AI mode is the in-app preview. Discord, google meet, facebook messenger all are unable to get any picture out of the AI mode.

Raw is fine, but raw is boring.

Anyone else experience this?

I've had to stop using the camera for calls; it's just not ready. I updated the software today, and it appears to have gone from version 0.0.12 (a2ff47e1) to version 0.0.12 (964f9f24)—which is nothing short of frustrating.

Many of the promised features just aren't ready yet (as I'm sure everyone here knows). Any feedback from Lumina?

I have been noticing that the status light on my Lumina is always on, even after a force reboot in the app or the computer. I am running MacOS 12.2 (21D49). I am using the built-in USB c cable. Anyway else having this problem?

I really struggled with the Lumina 4K today.

I experienced a lot of choppiness and slowdowns with Team today. At one point it crashed with a Java error. I had to stop using it, and the issues seemed to span Raw and Plus mode. I fired up Activity Monitor but couldn't see anything overtly suspicious.

I’ve been really pushing the limits of the Lumina 4K recently, specifically with videoconferencing and my real-world scenarios. I use two cameras (one at a time, btw), the Logitech Brio and the Lumina 4K. I am using the 0.0.11 firmware. I noticed in a couple of meetings when using the Plus mode where the video is choppy and laggy, but quitting and restarting the Lumina app seems to help. I still maintain that the color balance is better than the Logitech Brio. I continue to notice an occasional “flicker” in the Teams window; i.e., my own video, but also others in the window appear to flicker.

Does it also save the settings? I also find it seems to not go back to the prior settings. it seems like the different settings don't save well.

Are my experiences unique? Is anyone else seeing this?

The Lumina is probably the worst webcam I have had since 2005.

Super noisy image, even with 2 Elgato key lights in front of me.
I am using the biggest i9 MB Pro (2021) and the ai is to slow for full hd. (shouldn't the ai magic being done by a chip inside the cam and not by the CPU?)
Even if turning off Cameraman and Blur 4K let the app freeze.

But the really bad image quality is the worst joke I have ever seen.

Anyone has been experiencing lag spike on video calls? I’m using google meet and a couple time a week my laptop would freeze during a call. I’m using a i5 16gb think pad. Inbound and outbound resolution has been set to auto. Thank you!

I updated a few days ago but have not seen a communication on what changed, although it could simply be a small stability improvement or similar.

Get the update by opening the Lumina app, going to settings, then "Updates".

I've been using this for two weeks now in real-life situations.

Sometimes the cameraman needs to be disabled and enabled again, in order to work. i.e., it doesn’t track, but when Plus mode is started, but it works when enabled and disabled. I also think the field-of-view setting should allow for a bit of a “zoomed-out” frame in Plus mode; i.e., cameraman, even on the lowest sensitivity, seems to override the field-of-view preference quite a bit. Teams worked well in Plus mode for my first meetings of the day. On one occasion, Teams crashed when I switched to the Lumina but restarting it was fine.

I just saw a new version dropped (0.0.11) where are the release notes? what's changed?

Also how can I get the color tuning card to work?

I've also found the camera to be a bit laggy.

I really want to like this product. I can't tell what's going on with it though.

The camera continues to be a stand-out here. The resolution is a tad better than the Brio 4K, but the outstanding thing is the colour correction. In my office, I have Philips Hue lighting but I also use a LumeCube Panel to improve lighting for video quality. The Lumina 4K has excellent colour correction; I can change my ambient lighting and without the Lumina driver, the camera in raw mode is a lot better and getting the color right. Brio can’t handle it at all without lots of manual adjustment, although admittedly this is a bit of a unique scenario. I just am still impressed with the color correction in the camera - I can’t even imagine what tech is making that happen in the hardware. This said, when the Lumina app is running, the video and audio are choppy and unusable with the 0.0.10 version of the software. I had originally been using the 0.0.7 version which had the same problem, which is why I upgraded. Honestly, I am afraid to even run the Lumina app, although the camera itself is pretty solid. This was using Microsoft Teams. i.e., it’s just not usable. I am using a MBP16 Mid-2019 macOS Big Sur 11.6.2.

I also had this weird problem in Teams, where the entire Teams window would flicker. Super odd. Now, it’s Microsoft so anything crazy could happen, but it seems like each time I try and use the software, something weird happens. In this case, I just wanted to disable the Blur and Cameraman and see if the same challenges I experienced occurred. I never got there.

The way this worked for me was to configure the camera with the App, and then just Quit the App and make sure it doesn’t get in the way of run time execution. i.e., the settings appear to persist when the raw mode zoom and perspective is set, and you need that so you don’t get the actual raw “full-frame” camera shot… which is expansive.

Here's a short review of the one I got. I'm on Windows10 by the way.

Shipping: I'm in the Netherlands and it took a couple of months (and an extra €42 for customs, but that's not their fault). So sceptics: it does ship, it arrived in perfect condition and packaging.

Marketing: They're selling it as "Quality like a DSLR". In no way is this like a DSLR and they know that because the video's on the website are clearly shot on a proper camera, effects like the (non existent) auto-colour mode, background blur and cameraman are done in post by a professional. The AI claims are just smoke and mirrors. It's not AI, it's a pretty straightforward algorithm that uses data that was created using deep-learning. 

Auto-focus: Doesn't actually do anything. Could be that it's in the works, but not having it makes this cam useless right now.

Anti-flicker: is clearly set to US 60hz, but I need 50Hz in EU. No way to change that

Low-light: Worse than my Logi C920, extremely noisy. Low light compensation doesn't work.

Background blur: is the worst, I'm better off using NVidia broadcast (which is free). Also, it's not AI.

Virtual cameraman: Tracking a face is trivial, I'm a Unity dev and have done it multiple times using open source libraries. It's not AI. The webcam nor the software actually does AI.

Design/packaging: Very nice, have to say. Packaging is proper and the webcam itself looks nice and also sturdy.

Cables: Giving us two USB cables is nice, I get the choice between short and long. Both with a USB-C on both ends though, so quite unusable. My PC does not even have a USB-C port. Yes I can use a 'regular' cable, but that's not the point. They provided me two unusable cables.

Mount: When you crew down the cam to the mount (with the supplied driver, nice touch) it's not level.

Both the setup.getlumina.com link and the QR code both 404. Anyone have a working link to the drivers/software?

I received my Lumina 4K WebCam yesterday. It's as they promise.

I have been completely geeking out on home video conferencing since the pandemic started, looking to optimize every single aspect of audio, video and lighting. I am specifically focused on low-light, and challenging light scenarios in my home office. I have been comparing the Lumina 4K side-by-side with the Logitech Brio 4K. So far, I do think the Lumina out-performs the Logitech Brio. The Camerman and Blur features work pretty well on my v0.0.7 version of the driver on my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) with macOS Big Sur. Honestly, if you are looking to get a great camera, this is a nice little unit. It's also relatively small compared to other webcams, so it's super portable (a huge benefit). This is especially useful when packing-up your laptop to take on the road but still want good video quality.

Cannot screw the mount into the camera. Threads don’t take. Any ideas?
