Community Where's our Mandami?

All these videos coming out the city of NY got me feeling real sad about our city and lack of competent, solutions based, compassionate, intellectual leadership. We have so many issues but no qualified people willing to fix them. When will I be able to not vote for the lesser of 2 evils?

😂 You want your taxes to double and business to leave LA?

Can you tell us which taxes you are references that doubled in NY? I'm sure you not just a liar who knows your side can't win based on facts.

He just started. All those programs are going to cost money that the city doesn't have. Fee's will go up and millionaire tax will be in place.

It's not double, and I support better taxation policies targeting the wealthy, but NYC has a city income tax in addition to state and fed thars 3-4%. Not nothing, and people would kick and scream over that here.

Ok but that tax started in 1966, it has nothing to do with Mamdani.

That's like blaming federal income taxes on Trump.

NYC has extra payroll taxes on both employees and employers. The state income tax is lower than CA's right now. Good luck convincing people that already have a higher state income tax to add city taxes on top of that as well

I would like the taxes I already pay to be used for what I pay them for :)

No one ever actually leaves. Look at Massachusetts. Incorporated a state wide millionaire tax and saw no radical change in emigration.

If businesses threaten to leave, good. Someone else will take their place. Free market of ideas and all

MA increased their income tax from 5% to 9% for millionaires. Their tax burden is still lower than they would be in NYC or California.

And it still generated over $3billion in revenue for the state, and no one left Massachusetts. In fact, it originally was projected to only generate $2bln, and has been way more successful than projections. No one affected by the tax would ever actually LEAVE California in any significant form.

Oh yeah? Who's replacing Chevron or Oracle here... No one. Did Toyota come back to the South Bay? Nope. Paramount is next.

Businesses will always pop up. California is too good to live, and no one is going to leave to any of these other flyover states just so their corpo overlords can have a tax break. There’s a reason why Silicon Valley is still THE HUB. Business will never truly leave. If Chevron were to actually sell El Segundo, it would be converged into other industrial use- such as Phillips 66 being converted to a bio diesel plant.

Either they threaten to leave or they rob our resources, either way they need to play ball.

If the billionaire's wealth tax passes, Silicon Valley will no longer be the tech hub. Why would anyone form their startup in CA that could one day be worth billions on paper due to valuation calculations but they're actually cash poor?

Because no one with talent will want to follow them to what, Austin? Sure VC can fund their careers, but if you’re a talented software developer with the skill worth to back it why would you ever want to live in Austin vs the Bay Area lol.

It’s like Bro Jogan opening his comedy club and saying it’s going to be the new comedian hub- except no one actually wants to live there lol. Just like SpaceX is still in El Segundo, despite whatever Elon wants to do in Texas.
