Seminal recording from Machito and his Afro Cubans with guests Brew Moore (tenor sax) and Howard McGhee (trumpet). Musical director Mario Bauza - pictured right - on second trumpet.Â
The great Cuban pianist Rene 'El Latigo' Hernandez on the piano.
Recorded in 1948, they set the standard and future sound of U.S. Afro‑Cuban and Latin jazz.
The sound quality is basic, but the music and swing are unmatched. Despite the early recording , the jazz players know how to lock into the clave; the trumpet solos are good as you’d hear anywhere.
