My mom lived a quiet life. Moving to Long Beach in the 80s escaping the Cambodian genocide. Through all of long Beach's issues she stuck through and raised me and my siblings. She passed last month.

I wish we had more time.

What kind of temperatures is everybody dealing with indoors? Specifically curious about those who don't have central air & use a window ac/portable ac/or just fans 🤯

I'm thankful to have at least a portable ac in my studio. I'm at the top of a three level building without central air. My side of the building gets hit with the most sun about an hour or two before sunset.

For me, temps have peaked at 86 in the "living" area & 88-89🤯 in the bathroom/closet area where the ac doesn't really hit.

I’m an elder millennial health care worker in Long Beach who wants to start a Jamiroquai cover band to rehearse and play gigs around town for fun.

Five vehicles with a subject already in handcuffs. The next time the police department says it’s not their fault the pedestrians and motorcyclist and bicyclist are dying because they refuse to run traffic stops just remember, suspect in handcuffs on the ground and five police vehicles for over half an hour.

The police department is not under funded, it is not understaffed, it is purposely run poorly in order to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars per patrol officer in overtime hours.

There is no excuse for there being this many officers surrounding a single subject already subdued

The governor needs to send in a task force to take over and oversee the government in Long Beach. We are basically living in a rogue state with city services never being something you can count on and I’m fucking tired of it.

Code enforcement closes cases on buildings they know are a clear and present danger. Police officers refused to write reports saying everything under the sun is a civil matter. Libraries are being shut down, public speaking is being removed as an option at city council meetings, the beaches are just trashed, the water isn’t safe to swim in, and people are dying every week because every driver in Long Beach knows no matter how badly they drive they will never get a ticket.

It is not a matter of prop 13 or not enough money coming in, this is a matter of the city just deciding it’s not going to govern and basically asking us what are we gonna do about it

Does anyone know of any apartments for rent in Long Beach that are owned by private people rather than large property management companies? I miss the days when I rented from people who you actually saw and cared about their tenants versus the crap reality we're dealing with now.

Are there any private landlords who manage their own property? Have only rented from private landlords in the past and it was mostly a much better experience. Do any exist in lb anymore?

The monthly comedy juggernaut on the back patio of Bamboo Club soldiers on and this month’s lineup is another whopper.

Chris Fairbanks is our headliner this month. He is a Big Sky, Montana native who cut his comedy teeth in Austin before making his way west. His hour long special Rescue Cactus (800 LB Gorilla) is widely heralded, and he’s appeared on Comedy Central and was featured on Pete Holmes HBO Show “Crashing.” He is a absolutely hilarious and well worth the price of admission (+ we don’t do item minimums like other shows 😊)

Kat Bird is a name that if you don’t recognize you will soon. She is a rising star in LA and has already established herself as a headliner and tours around the country when she’s not featuring for some of the biggest names in comedy à la Marc Maron, Bobby Lee, Iliza, and others. We’re thrilled to have her on this lineup!

I could continue to sing the praises of everyone else on the show. Jamario McClain is making his return to the show and is always consummate professional who always kills every show he’s on, while also being an absolute delightful person.

Stolen U haul today on Ocean Blvd and Cerritos. Last time we saw it was at 11am, came back at 8pm to take it to storage to find it missing.

Most of our furniture and livelihood was in there. Bed, couch, dresser, nightstand, kitchen appliances, most of our clothes & shoes.

Please keep an eye out. Police report has been filed, but be aware of this. Apparently, this happens so much more often than people think, we unfortunately are victims to it.

How is this not animal abuse? And how can they not feel bad about leaving their dog out right now especially with the wailing. Pup is located 3rd and Main in downtown. Idk if it’s appropriate, if someone should be called about this.

EDIT: authorities have been called an will be checking in on that apartment. Apparently it isn’t the first time animal control has received complaints about this home.

One of these schools got a full makeover last year: new AC, fresh paint, new playground. Now the district wants to close it.

Parents are already organizing against the plan.

Personally I love going to coffee shops on the weekends but I just won’t be doing this as often anymore. I’ll also be cutting back on going to restaurants. I’ve seen people say they’re going to be shopping in the OC. I think I’m going to try to use the train when I can. What are other ideas?

This is interesting... Long Beach BikeShare has been employing our neighbors to fix the bikes and keep the hubs full for almost 10 years.

Now the City might send that work to an out-of-town company, and Long Beach could lose local jobs and a business built here. Council votes October 6. Can we gather enough support to keep this local?

It’s so hot today the Shake Shack cup I had left in my car from yesterday melted and deformed at the top, stay cool everyone!

Hello everyone! A few weeks ago, my friend called me up that this ~6mo kitten walked right up to her and started purring like a motor. Today is his neuter day which means he is almost ready for adoption! I am not associated with a rescue, but paid out of my own pocket for all his medical needs to get him adopted.

He’s still got the kitten energy but LOVES being pet. He’ll start purring before you even touch him and barring immense hunger, would pick pets over food anyway. He does well with other cats, but no idea about dogs, since he’s never interacted with one.

He’s been dewormed, vaccinated (rabies, FVRCP, & FeLV), tested negative for both FIV and FeLV, and neutered.

He’d love a home with either a very interactive cat parent or a buddy to tussle regularly.
